In our parks, they are working hard on trees _because _ they take decades, and one more invasive pest like emerald ash borer could destroy tons of shade that would take so long to replace.

I must be in a different algorithm, because all I get is about pollinator gardens and the fight between supporting honeybees vs native bees and other pollinators. Hardly anything about out tree ecology

I should clarify, for flowers, shrubs, etc, always choose native at this point

While true, trees can provide house shade and lower energy demand. It's not just one thing

Honestly, in the urban environment, tree diversity is probably better than renaturalizing given climate change, invasive pests, etc. This does not go for flowers

The push for institutional neutrality, like the so-called “free-speech crisis,” was always a right wing ploy to get universities to stop pointing out obvious things like “fascists are ascendant” and “racism is bad.”
