I hope people don't judge me too harshly when I reply to their emails 4 months late.

Shes a teen!

2000+ years of breeding then to perform very specific tasks had that effect on them. Vs cats that were just kinda there.

๐Ÿ˜น๐Ÿ˜น she looks so similar!

It's a good thing, actually. Stops people from creating mew designer breeds for lots of money and no consideration for health

Im not seeing it in the fur, myself, but the crinkle mutation had popped up NUMEROUS times in feral populations. Different genes, too!

The moment I hit send I knew I sinned by not properly expressing that they are both perfect good dogs.

Forgive me๐Ÿ˜น

I love that phrase!

And it's okay! The reason I pepper so many of my posts with a thousand emoticons is that I type like a stern professor when I'm reality I'm just excited to talk about my niche interests and don't have the energy to actively be mad at anyone interacting in good faith ๐Ÿ˜น๐Ÿ˜น๐Ÿฅฐ

So, it's a really complex process. You have to have like X generations, proof that you can breed to a standard, and a wide and healthy enough genetic pool. First you have to be an experimental breed, and then there's a democratic voting process.

It takes YEARS.

I love your good looking trim boy. I love seeing champion line frenchies and remembering that they can actually be a dog.

To be fair, "frenchie" is more of a vibe in the backyard breeding world ๐Ÿ˜น

Aliexpress frenchie is more frenchie than half of the ones I see on Facebook, somehow.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply you didn't. I just like explaining that for dramatic effect. I love how different they are.

And even with the hybrid cats, they were ultimately used to make more dramatic tabbies, but they still used tabbies as the base ๐Ÿ˜น

2 days ago 3 0 1 0

Yup to that. They have wanderlust ๐Ÿ˜น

They are also more common, and that absolutely affects things.

You need a breed to be common enough that there's a higher chance for byb to send out intact kittens rather than neutering them.

And active enough to want to wander ๐Ÿ˜น

In dog terms, this is like mixing a pitbull or labrador with an italian grayhound.

She's just kinda weird looking! She's a teen so will fill out and probably look more proportional as an adult, but I think she got the tiny cornish rex head, the long cornish rex body, and the bulk of a bengal ๐Ÿ˜น

2 days ago 3 0 2 0

Honestly the most likely oops pedigree mixes would be Bengal followed by (surprisingly) sphynx/ devon rex. The later is because with their recessive traits I can easily imagine some of the thousands of hairless criss cross doodles byb dumping kittens who aren't bald.

The best breed!

2 days ago 3 0 0 0

As a fun example, here's a cornish rex x Bengal. Oops litter from champion lines.

People associate traits and color SO strongly with breeds and overlook structure. And even then, no one would guess correctly for this girl.

An actual, in the wild, pedigree cat mix, probably won't look it.

I would consider ALL of those to be domestics because the traits commonly associated with those breeds are not uncommon in domestic populations. There are probably thousands of bobbed tail cats who aren't even distantly related to manx. Millions of colorpoint cats and spotted tabbies.

I mean, that's how breeds start ๐Ÿ˜น but then it takes GOBS of time and effort.

Choosing to use Threads makes me feel stupider.

And then they blocked me๐Ÿ˜น

๐Ÿ˜น the ones with visible mutations are easier to feel confident about.

I think that's neat!!

Okay, so in fairness to your vet, he might have meant Ojos Azules, which is an extinct breed of dominant blue eye orange cats from the southwestern United States. They had a lot of health issues, but the dominant blue eye can still pop up.
(Technically NOT a breed, but not a bad guess)

Hahaha I had already typed the reply before you edited ๐Ÿ˜น and was lazy

Cats aren't really "mixed breed" like dogs are. Cats are "no breed" or "papered and pedigreed"

This is because cat breeds are NEW and pedigreed cats are usually neutered unless in a breeding program.

That's why 97% are just a cat.

Folk often perceive cats as tiny dogs, which is not the case.
