🧤🧣Clothing advice needed please! 🧥🥾, especially from women who live in places with cold winters.❄️☃️🌫
I'm always cold, and trying to find some better insulated clothing. I've lived most of my life in warmer climates so most of my stuff is geared toward very mild, not so cold winters.🧵
Excited to announce my new job as a Senior Consultant for Illume Advising, a clean and renewable energy consulting company!
Thank you to everyone who helped me in my job search! Here’s to new adventures and the next step in my career journey.💡
💡Awesome news to share soon... but here's a hint.💡
Whoa… that temperature in Minnesota sounds unusual. It is 82° at 4 pm MT in Tucson right now… in the middle of November. Warmer than usual. But 66° where you are? My goodness this year’s temperatures have definitely been something odd.
I see all you higher ed researchers getting excited @ #ASHE2023 & I have major FOMO. But then I realize, it's cold up there & as much as I want to show up w/ my signature pink peacoat, I'll stay home & enjoy my warm winter weather. Have fun & I hope to follow the social media posts though!
I can’t believe it’s already November 1… and 2023 is almost over.
Shouldn't have gone to Target & noticed the 30% off clothing & accessories. Especially as stores are coming out w/ sparkly holiday items. Went to go buy just 2 food items. Came out w/ a skirt, 2 pairs of earrings, & 2 pairs of shoes. All 🌟sparkly bedazzled items🌟 (my weakness).
Even though I'm still on X/Twitter, joined Threads and Blue Sky, I feel like I don't post that much anymore...
I often think about the topics I will never stop enjoying to talk about. Top 5: Higher education. Dogs. Desserts. Travel. Thrift Shopping. 📚🐶🍰✈️🛍️
Now, the real question is: how can I weave all five of these interests into a career? 😆
Very curious to know how higher ed institutions (& related associations) will respond/react to this... as many positions in HE pay less than $55k/yr. "The proposed rule would raise the threshold under which workers are automatically eligible for overtime pay to about $55k a year."
I wrote a post about being thankful for something in life, especially in the midst of job searching in a terrible job market. Important to focus on the good, even when life (difficult job search) isn't as good. Check it out & share what you're thankful for.
"Thanks to a pilot program at a university in Michigan, students can keep their pets with them while living on campus. Ferris State University is launching the state’s first pet-friendly program allowing students to live in the dorms with their pets."
But it’s better than Threads? I’ve found threads is all ads, influencers, and people I don’t follow. Hopefully BlueSky opens up and let’s more ppl in soon.
I know a lot of people wanting to go from education to corporate jobs get a lot of flack/disdain that they only have education-focused skills. I have business/data/strategy acumen too. But at least this is promising trying out applying for Sr. HE roles again has leverage for me.
Unfortunately the corporate/industry job market is TERRIBLE right now. So I recently started applying for higher ed jobs. Applied VERY selectively to remote only, certain salary jobs. Somehow I'm getting more rates of getting interviews. At least I have that going for me? 😎
Would it be too much of a lofty goal to write a book on the "Weird (As in Good Weird), Fun, and Unique Things about Higher Education" and crowdsource (then research/verify/) the (good) weird artifacts that make their college campuses' unique? Would be a fun project.
I love learning about weird (as in good weird) & fun news about higher ed. Did you know Cornell University has an apple fruit vending machine since the 1950's? You can get an fresh apple for $1. The apples come from Cornell's apple orchards.
Beautiful dessert! Sorry to hear about your housing search woes… my husband & I backed out of our search a few months ago when mortgage rates went up & house prices stayed sticky & wouldn’t go down.
Sigh... I just want a good paying job with interesting work, kind colleagues, and healthy work culture. It has been over 4 months of searching and nothing, why is this so difficult? (I know it's a terrible time to job search)
Job search thoughts... I just want to make it past a initial/screening interview, had a lot of these initial interviews with a recruiter, but haven't moved forward. Very frustrating & waste of my time.😣 Let me show the hiring manager/team how awesome, talented, & capable I am.🙏
Lol isn’t everywhere in Phoenix overpriced. One of the hottest markets of 2021… and no longer the case.
I have been watching the housing prices in neighborhood I’m interested in… one house is $300k MORE than other houses in that neighborhood. Trying to figure out why it’s so overpriced, it doesn’t have better features/upgrades than others currently listed…
Totally get it, I applied for small grants/funding as higher ed staff & it took so much time & a huge headache. Especially when university research services wanted their cut of indirect costs off a $1000 grant. Too much effort & time investment w/ very little support for non-faculty on small grants.
Oh I already like BlueSky so much more than X & Threads.😜 On old Twitter, I followed mostly higher ed admins/staff/faculty with a variety of unique hobbies, interests, research topics, & college related things. Kind of feels like old Twitter again which is a bit comforting in today’s world.
It’s a lot harder to find mutual contacts on BlueSky than that other app. I did find a bunch of ppl by looking up following/followers of current BlueSky connections I have. Any tips or is it too beta so there’s really not that many people on here yet before it goes fully live?
Excited to try out BlueSky! X… getting worse by the day & lots of ppl I know leaving, Threads… seems full of ads, brands, & influencers, & less focus on ppl I know. Other social media… used for personal/closer contacts. So here I am on BlueSky!
