(& yes this will mean that some kids from the richest part of the city will have quite a long bus journey to school now, but these people were remarkably quiet about the fact that this has been the arrangement for the poorest kids for about 20 years)

The council where we live have recently changed the catchment areas so kids in the poorest part of the city have the choice of more than 1 school (the only one they could go to before was a 1hr+ bus ride away) and a lot of people living in the richest part of the city are absolutely FUMING

Just walked past a shop that was selling patriotic poppers

Conceivably you could have a situation in or around 2122 where there is only one person who is able to buy a packet of fags and they are 113 years old and they have to go around the country stealthily sorting everyone out with dodgy silk cut

So many people replying saying "dogs shouldn't be allowed on Brighton beach in the summer" and some very patient people replying that "dogs are not allowed on central Brighton beach during the summer already"

they were selling some ridiculous guinea-pig duvet covers in asda last year & was there with our child who then spotted that they also did them in a double, so we now have a giant guinea-pig duvet cover & I wish more shops made this sort of thing in grown-up size as well

In that circumstance, not only are they probably up against a weakened Labour party propped up by (idk, the Lib Dems?), but given what their vetting looks like the new Reform intake is going to make the 2019 Tory intake look like a bunch of saints and that's going to be a wild dynamic too

So last year a friend booked a function room in a pub for his 40th birthday and we printed out loads of these and stuck them up around the room before anyone arrived which was a) a great bit but also b) the pub staff were utterly bewildered, "is this a Labour meeting? we thought it was a birthday?"

Trying to check if I've got this right:

Chaos Muppet Lib Dem Leaders: Ashdown, Kennedy, Farron (?)
Order Muppet Lib Dem Leaders: Cable, Swinson, Campbell

Bonus Liberal Leaders: Thorpe (Chaos), Grimond and Steel (Order)

At the next election he will be about 66 years old (and Starmer will be 67), and assuming whatever government gets in serves a full term he'll be in his 70s by the election after that. He's also a heavy smoker, likes a drink, and is easily distracted.

unironic George IV fan here (liked to party, commissioned some ridiculous buildings, messy love life, by the time he became king he was a chaotic laudanum addict who had zero interest in doing the job)

Prime minister gets email - but don't expect a reply People are now free to send emails to Tony Blair - but the PM won't be replying to each and every one personally

It is quite funny that Blair did this though as he was famously anti-email as PM and only set up an email address because someone set up a fake tony-blair@prime-minister.co.uk email account in 2003. He only got a mobile phone after he had left office!

My only guess would be that you might get people putting considerable quantities of garden waste (eg: if you prune a load of trees and trim a hedge) in a bin which would immediately fill it rather than the odd wilted daffodil.

a couple of years ago my child was super-into the Octonauts and I got sucked into a proper internet rabbit hole about whether the vegimals (vegetable/fish hybrids) that carry out their domestic tasks were enslaved or just happy to help out. People had some serious opinions about it.

You definitely make some good points. Still not sure I could see the mer-people eating a fellow sea creature. The only sea character we see eating another sea animal is Ursula (a scared prawn I think)…and she is banished from the kingdom. I have a feeling that this is one of the many reasons she was exiled.

I think your last part is the biggest issue. I agree that Eric and Ariel could have possibly attempted to form treaties with Triton but the impact on their kingdom could potentially be devastating both as a source of revenue and the livelihood of the people. Sure they could make this edict and completely change the foundation of the government that was already established along with subsequent laws for anyone who broke the treaty. But this would create potential unrest in the kingdom and make the reign of Eric & Ariel short by way of a coup or a revolt. Unless there was a way for everyone to see that fish (and other animals…let’s not forget them) could talk, sing and dance…that might be another story then.

did a brief search about this question and it seems like people have considered this in quite a lot of detail

Watched this with my child last year and despite loving this film as a kid I'd completely forgotten about the french chef! Still shocked that ariel is so relaxed watching the prince eat crab afterwards but I guess she's pretty distracted by the fork at the time.

That's fascinating - funny how it's come round to be the go-to phrase for a generation after all that time. I've got a copy of this 1964 sociology book called "Generation X" which contains interviews with a bunch of British young people who we would certainly now consider to be boomers.

When I was young I remember being told we were the MTV Generation. Don't think I heard the word "millennial" until well into the 2000s.
