A couple of plein air paintings done over Thanksgiving week in the high desert. Oils on clayboard.

I can see how plein air painting can become the only thing that some people do.

An oil painting on panel depicting crashing waves of a rocky shore as background while on the right foreground a woman with a weary smile looks at the viewer and, on the left, a translucent ghost-like image of a man in uniform mirrors her composition, yet blends into the background.

The whole world of printing: monotypes, prontoplates, lithographs, etching, etc, has been calling to me for a while. I've made one copperplate etching and a handfull of lino cuts. I made myself a promise to take some kind of class in summer. I look forward to seeing more of yours!

If you're like me and wish Bsky was a bit more image-based than text, @flashes.blue is a fantastic client. 30 second sign up with your exiting bsky account, and you get your regular feed but the focus can now be on art and images. (and @nancycomics.bsky.social fit better than in the regular app.)

An oil painting depicting a worried woman on the right, while behind her the same scene—a woman standing in a desert landscape next to a large succulent—is shown in two angles overlaid on each other. The more stable color version is distorted, and haunted by the ghostly version in correct perspective. The tell tale black lodge herringbone floor creeps in from the bottom left while in the distance a shaky pencil drawn shack release curly smoke from the chimney.

An oil painting. Featuring two women, a desert landscape, some visual distortion and a herringbone floor reminiscent of the black lodge, all blended together.

As I seem to share every winter time, here is my essay on Thomas Kinkade, The #PainterofLight. It is #christmas themed after all, and almost a decade old.

I've currently got 3 bids in on Kinkade prints at local estate sales. Perhaps I'll win one. #artreview #contemporaryart #oilpainting #art

Picture of an arch top tenor guitar on it's side leaning against a wall.

The absolute best thing about this 1966 Harmony tenor is that after a minute of playing, this amazing smell of old books and age comes emanating from the sound holes.
The vibrations must be breaking up the age locked inside, and I'm scared for the day that it gets all used up. #vintage #guitar

Seemed like even his own band was having a hard time with him. I went home telling my friends “guys, you gotta listen to Axxes and Ace!” I think about that show a lot. Now that I know more of his work I wish I could go back and really study it. I know I missed important things in that performance.

Did I ever tell you I saw Jason Molina play once? He opened for the Avett Bros at a mid sized venue. I was more excited to see him and talked him up so much to my friends before the show, and he was awful. Probably loaded, out of tune (a stretch I know!)…
