Past couple of months in and out of hospital with a stubborn pulmonary infection — finally got the all-clear.

It has been a difficult time. Thank you for your patience.

I’m so sorry if I missed your email or DM, replying to everyone soon.

The geometry of evolution Some structures are more suitable for self-organization through the Darwin-Wallace mechanism of variation and selection than others. Such evolutionary…

that said, some people use 'components' for repeated organisational patterns in organisms:

How does the cerebellum contribute to cognitive functions? The role of the cerebellum in motor functions is well understood. But why is the same circuitry engaged in functions such as working memory, language, and social cognition? This Unsolved Mystery looks...

Also out today - A quick intro piece on the role of the cerebellum in cognition. What does it do? How will we find out? This is what @actlab.bsky.social and I think the critical questions are right now. It was fun to write - especially the section on evolution....

@amahury.bsky.social

I’m big fan of Romain Brette’s work (maybe because in-group influence and inspiration). Maybe this is the field-to-field overlap of the argument you making. It’s all about linking the parallel thought that emerges.

To predict the behaviour of a primate, would you rather base your guess on a closely related species or one with a similar brain shape? We looked at brains & behaviours of 70 species, you’ll be surprised!

Does the learned latent space: capturing diverse neural microstructures, function as a 'micro-morphospace' allow us to navigate variations in fiber architecture?

Simulation of fiber patterns might change under different hypothetical conditions a data-driven approach for mechanistic simulations?

Next: Working hypothesis why these emergent patterns might reflect fundamental constraints in cortical organization.

I wrote an article earlier in the week arguing that we need to give junior researchers more independence earlier, and this should be our focus, not moonshot mega projects led by senior researchers.

I was surprised how much agreement I'm seeing.

So next question: how do we do this?
