@hydrochrista.bsky.social @domciruzzi.bsky.social, and I asked hydrologists across the country for their syllabi so we could investigate how instructors were teaching hydrology courses and think about the future...
Here’s what we found + suggestions

Postdoc @zhaozhechen.bsky.social is representing our Powell Center ecosystem synchrony group at AGU this year! Come check out his Thursday 10:52 AM talk (abstract 1882146) in rm 228-230! it’s all about hydroclimatic and critical zone synchrony with/drivers of evapotranspiration.
Calling fans of temporary waters! We invite you to submit an abstract to our ASLO-SIL special session "SS015 Drying waters: the science and management of temporary aquatic ecosystems".

Major congratulations! I can’t wait to read it!
Happening tomorrow, 11/17, 11 am Eastern!
Looking forward to talking non-perennial streams with MZ tomorrow! She'll do an overview of all of the great synthesis work in the NPS literature in the last ~5 years, and I'll do a deep dive on the organization of the Aquatic Intermittency effects on Microbiomes in Streams (AIMS) project! Join us!
Teach hydro modeling? Want to introduce modeling in an intro class?
Check out this web-app, activities, and code (in case you want to spin off your own)..
Thanks @jansei.bsky.social for working with me on this, which was inspired by his HBV-lite teaching software!

Wrapping up your PhD? I’m planning to hire a postdoc in the next few months (start date flexible). Will start formally advertising soon, but you heard it here first!! Possible research topics include - critical zone hydrology, agricultural water quality, SW-GW interactions. Reach out if interested!
Recently, all the AAAS Science & Tech Policy Fellows at EPA were terminated from our positions with little notice and for no clear reason. This effectively ended a partnership that had been going since 1980 and which had brought hundreds of scientists to the EPA as fellows, many of whom stayed. 1/7
Coastal Massachusetts in August? Sure! Apply to attend our CUAHSI-sponsored workshop on stakeholder-informed spatial modeling for hydrologic sciences. Let me know if you have any questions!

Hydrology Paper of the Day @margaretzimmer.bsky.social on how subsurface geology influences discharge and transport processes in two headwater catchments of the Diablo Range, California affected by wildfire: sedimentary and mélange lithologies, and understanding spatiotemporal DOC export.

Pleased to announce my lab will soon be hiring a postdoc! Join an interdisciplinary group working on ecosystem change following the last glacial maximum in southeast Alaska. Substantial modeling skills are a big plus! Applications due April 20th. coreykrabbenhoft.com/join-us-2/
Latest paper out of the WS hydrology lab! Here we show spatial variability in lithology is important for streamflow behavior and carbon export, but geogenic solute export behavior is similar. agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
Oh I absolutely can’t wait to read this new paper! The “little bit of everything” in this paper is everything I love!
Poster advertising GRC Catchment Science Conference, dates 22-27 June 2025, and accompanying GRS conference for Young Researchers 21-22 June 2025.
Remember to apply and register for this summer's Catchment Science GRC! The best conference you'll ever go to. Deadlines coming up on March 16 for graduate students to submit their oral abstracts to the GRS.

Yesterday was the darkest day of my professional life so far. Many of NSF’s best and brightest people fired indiscriminately. The terms of their firing cruel. My colleagues matter, they are valued and they make a difference. I have no words. www.npr.org/2025/02/18/n...
Today’s the day!!! So excited for Lauren!!
Just make your class watch the defense hehe! Good question though, I’ll check with Lauren to see if we can record it.

Wednesday 2/12 at 1 PT is Lauren Giggy’s PhD defense presentation, titled “Hydrology and Biogeochemistry of Non-Perennial Streams in Coastal California.” She will talk streamflow generation processes, wildfire impacts, and more!! If this sounds exciting to you, message me for the zoom link!
Check out this thread with Fact Sheets and interactive tools to learn about NSF’s impact across the US, in your state, and at universities in your community!
A little bit delayed, but I hear it's picking up over here so sending this out into the world: our Lafayette team including Rachel Hurley (now grad student at WPI), Dave Brandes, and me put out this piece on flashiness across the Mid-Atlantic: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1...
