If universities want to prove they are serious about confronting abuses of power within their ranks, they must show that prestige does not entitle anyone, however accomplished, to a soft landing. @us.theconversation.com #econsky

Larry Summers’ sexism is jeopardizing his power and privilege, but the entire economics profession hinders progress for women In 2024, only about 1 in 3 newly minted economics Ph.D.s were women.

Larry Summers’ sexism is jeopardizing his power and privilege, but the entire economics profession hinders progress for women - an excellent reflection by @yanarodgers.bsky.social theconversation.com/larry-summer...

A really important read by @yanarodgers.bsky.social - we have so many fantastic female economists in school and we'd hate to think that they would struggle to progress due to the economics profession's practices and culture. Have a read. #EconSky

This piece I wrote for @theconversation.com argues that the Summers/Epstein debacle reflects what the data show: systemic bias in the economics profession’s practices and culture. That bias influences who succeeds and who is sidelined. #EconSky theconversation.com/larry-summer...

Excellent op-ed from @yanarodgers.bsky.social placing the Summers scandal---and the lifetime ban announced today by the AEA---in context.

We call on other institutions in the economics profession to take these revelations seriously, to open an independent investigation into Summers’ conduct, and to reconsider his access to the platforms and networks that he has been afforded for too long.

Women in economics have unfortunately become accustomed to dealing with sexism and harassment in the workplace. This reduces women’s productivity and limits their success and should never be tolerated.

CSWEP strongly condemns Larry Summers’ behavior as revealed in the email correspondence with the late Jeffrey Epstein. While abuse of power in the economics profession is not new, rarely has the intent behind such abuse been so clearly stated.

The revelations about Summers & Epstein reflect a profession that has tolerated exclusionary norms and hostility toward women for decades. The discipline cannot claim credibility while ignoring its own misogyny. We need to enforce codes of conduct and prioritize accountability.#Econsky

Why Trump’s offensive against the Fed's Lisa Cook is a ‘five-alarm fire’ At issue is an attempted White House power grab that ignores the rule of law and puts global economic stability at risk.

OK, who wants to help me draft & distribute a letter of support for Lisa Cook & Central Bank independence?

I already have a first draft & a bunch of academics' emails

The costs of restricting abortion? More than $130 billion per year. A new report quantifies the costs of rising abortion restrictions three years after Dobbs.

We have evidence abortion bans harm women, now evidence it harms the economy. These bans need to be repealed ASAP.
