Truly the heart sings whenever I see #HammersmithBridge coverage that isn’t totally infected by car brain. Kudos @privateeyenews.bsky.social for a rare reality-based take on the situation

There’s room for more than one bridge to be a trailblazer for 21st century travel, including public transport

A bridge does not become a bridge only when you put a car on it

'Locals behind the slogan ‘Hammersmith Bridge is open’ have pointed out that the bridge is not closed, it is just closed to cars.'

When I get a minute I will post a thread with the actual *data* on traffic volumes, congestion and bus delays and air quality in Putney over the years from before Hammersmith Bridge closed to motor traffic to now. contradicts the claim that Putney’s traffic problems can be fixed by cars back over HB

WATCH: Hammersmith Bridge deadlock as seven years of closure comes to a head | South West Londoner Seven years after Hammersmith Bridge was first closed to motorists, protestors gathered in Barnes to feud over the historic crossing.

Despite inauspicious headline heartening to see some balance brought to the reporting (incl video clip) on this bridge

Good to see double demo mention

Some of coverage would have this overlooked completely

And so very much 'not' a closed bridge

A bridge does not become a bridge only when you put a car on it

Agreed, on all counts

And nobody is debating there is traffic in Putney

I can’t remember ever seeing Putney unladen with traffic

It does seem far too easy for many to blame any and all perceived changes on Hammersmith bridge

Absolutely and many based nowhere near the bridge and even nowhere near surrounding areas seem to have loudest voices

It's used and enjoyed by many many people, every single day. Particularly during the week

And I am not a cyclist. Very much not just cyclists on there

This is fantastic

Horribly pertinent to recent interview on BBC advocating a shift 'towards' psychosomatic

In some ways hard to believe given first line of battle confronted by patients 'can' be the need to convince clinician that symptoms are 'not' this

Not for the sake of argument but for the sake of related care

However, what is needed most urgently is a paradigm shift. Long COVID has been considered a psychosomatic condition just as several other conditions, including myalgic encephalomyelitis and chronic fatigue syndrome. The evidence of biological events in patients with long COVID is overwhelming and cannot be ignored. Rather, this evidence should inspire future research and a scientific and medical revolution in the whole field of post-viral chronic conditions. Recognition of long COVID should have practical consequences and be translated in real-world clinical settings, with patients being able to receive
a formal diagnosis of long COVID by their family doctor or specialist.

As I read this article I thought about people like Natalie Shure — remember her writing about then doubling down on her thoughts about long covid as a psychological illness? www.thelancet.com/journals/lanmic/article/...

Good to hear both ‘lessons learned’ and ‘no blame culture’ discussed productively this morning

In the absence of this would say their range can be somewhere between meaningless and insulting

Good to see 'avoidable' mentioned

There can be eg avoidable misdiagnosis also

Indeed

Find this can be evident if as patient you try to make the point that some of issues in healthcare can be exactly same within private care as within NHS

Which is generally quickest to propose/adapt to Change, Medicine or the Law?

Love the fact of international input 👏

What is likely to happen to some performance when eg

System is very defensive

Default rule to distrust everything patient says

Or are these a ‘to be expected’ albeit unspoken rule?

(NHS and Private)
