Interesting speech by Vince Gilligan, who is clearly chagrined over the bad-fan response to Walter White: www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/v...

🛬UPDATE—Airport control tower was understaffed at time of DCA airport crash—one controller was working 2 different tower positions, normally done by 2 people—which FAA memo says was “not normal for the time of day and volume of traffic”. ➡️We should not downsize the FAA
This was posted yesterday morning before the DCA crash. Prescient.
Some of what Trump is attempting to do is unlawful, but some of his shadier maneuvers will likely be supported by the courts. SCOTUS is on his side. I don't say this to discourage people, but as a reminder that the law cannot be our bottom line. Our obligation is to each other, not the law.
this is incredibly disappointing, disgusting, and enraging.
When programs make these choices, they are lying. They are erasing history, and they degrade themselves.
I am ashamed that the Rubin project made this decision.
Skeet from Aaron Rupar @atrupar.com "Insanity–Trump signs an order blaming Biden and DEI for flight dangers
Not insanity. Racism. White supremacy. Re-segregation. Eugenics. Exclusion. Hating Black people.
Call it what it is. Stop giving these fools cover by calling it insanity.
Note: I reskeeted this & then deleted because I can't have this fool's face on my skyline so I just put the original skeet.

What a week.
Some pretty important health stories got overshadowed by the news cycle.
The way Canadians seek out and receive health care is about to fundamentally change.

Another obvious tell is the awkward inclusion of the specific term "transgenderism" (a rightwing shibboleth) into the policy language itself.
TL;DR - the fact checking drama is mostly a distraction from a much more grim set of changes. 🧵 11/11
Zuck positioned these changes as a return to history practice but, for these policy changes, that is untrue. The specific examples I called out above have been prohibited on the site since I wrote the first set of hate speech standards in 2009. 🧵 8/11
Among other things, in my reading of what their rules say, you can now say that all members of any race or religion are thieves, can call women furniture, and can say that people are mentally ill because of their sexual orientation. It is unclear to me what legislative debates this serves. 🧵 7/11
Second: Meta seriously weakened its hate speech standards in a way that makes all protected groups generally, and immigrants, women, and LGBTQ+ people specifically, much more vulnerable to abuse on the site. 🧵 5/11
As a reporter who covered the Facebook apology tour circa 2016, and spent HOURS on the phone with FB flak and executives earnestly telling me Zuckerberg was torn up over Russian election interference and was making it a top priority to fix misinfo on FB, this week’s developments are 🙃

THREAD: How to check if the screenshot of a social media post is real or fake?
Fake screnshots of online posts regularly mislead people. So, here's a simple guide on how you can quickly check if a screenshot of a post attributed to an account is genuine or fake before falling for or sharing it.
Awww!!! Adorable!!!
A German Shepherd dog resting on a beige, worn-out leather couch, looking relaxed but slightly sleepy, with its ears perked up and head resting on the cushion.
Took some excellent advice and used AI to create the alt text for this one… and… oof. Yes, my couch has seen better days. But the dog is too cute for me to care. This is what I came home to this evening . #DogsOfBlueSky #Dog #GermanShepherd #CouchShaming
Congratulations to your family! What a special day (and so many more to come) 💛 there’s no better feeling than someone sharing their authentic self.
Every single school should have a library & a librarian, to help every single child find the books that will make them readers, and give them all the lifelong benefits of literacy. Libraries & librarians change children's lives FOREVER!

Feels like time for another dog pic.
