The addiction is wild, I have it too. I'm try to spend my evenings doing things like reading and crotchet, otherwise I'll be on my phone.

She's fine, she's just using it for asking questions, work and general stuff. Basically using it like google except it 'talks' back.

100% agree! My 'old' comment is more me acknowledging that I'm part of the last generation to grow up without social media. Just Snake on the Nokia 3310 LOL. I'm so so glad there wasn't social media when I was in school because wow that must be difficult to navigate.

I told her about the environmental harm chatgpt does and she had no idea! She didnt know about data centres either. Shoes how well companies are hiding this info. The whole thing feels so nefarious.

Not to sound old but I feel so nostalgic for the time when everyone wasn't constantly on their phones (she says, typing on her phone lol, but you know what I mean)

Chatgpt replacing human interaction is so concerning to me, especially when it's misleading and/or agrees with everything you say. I feel more and more isolated in my refusal to use it at all. But I'm also not in a position where some corporate bosses are forcing me to use it every day.

My friend told me today how much she loves chatgpt... how she chats and confides in it every day because it feels like a friend. Yes that's because it's designed to mimic human amiability to encourage you to feed it personal data for training.
