Powering our airports, libraries, streetlights, and more with 100% renewable energy—thanks to the Double Black Diamond solar installation in Springfield. For Chicago, that means emissions cuts equal to taking 62,000 cars off the road each year. Clean energy. New jobs. #ClimateAction

A Statement from Department of Environment Commissioner Angela Tovar: Today, the EPA announced 31 intended actions that would reverse decades of progress to protect Americans’ right to clean air, clean water, and clean land, under the false pretense of “Powering the Great American Comeback.” Make no mistake, there is no power in rollbacks that threaten public health, safety, and the environment. The City of Chicago is unwavering in our commitment to environmental justice and climate action. We stand ready to work with leadership across all levels of government to fiercely protect our people and are ready to oppose these actions as necessary.
The City of Chicago Department of Environment stands firmly against the EPA's proposed deregulatory actions. Click the attached image to read the full statement from DOE Commissioner Angela Tovar.
I will be meeting with our @chicagodoe.bsky.social to assess how we can fight back so that the health of all Chicagoans is protected.
Yesterday, during City Council, we honored Cheryl Johnson and her late mother, Hazel Johnson, two Chicagoans at the forefront of the fight for environmental justice. All Chicagoans, no matter their income or their zip code, deserve clean air and clean water.
The environmental justice movement was born in Chicago decades ago to fight back against toxic pollution in Black and brown neighborhoods on the South and West Sides. These cuts are an attack on our communities and we will be pursuing all options available to us to fight back.
Proud Chicagoan today and always! Thank you for upholding our values @mayorofchicago.bsky.social 💪🏽
