Seconded. I have retinitis pigmentosa, which means, among other things, that I have very poor low-light vision. I can't remember the last sffh movie or tv show (and not only sffh, for that matter) that wasn't functionally equivalent to a broken screen for significant amounts of time. So annoying.

As a teenager/young adult, I spent what little money I had on the Expos. When there were 1,500 people at the Big O on a Thursday afternoon in April, I was one of them. Then they left and I didn't watch a single game until the pandemic. Fell back in love thanks to Vladdy, Semian & Bo.
Yay baseball!
Sounds silly, but write something else, anything, preferably on a deadline. For decades, whenever I couldn't write game or tv scripts, I wrote stand-up; when I couldn't bear the sight of my thesis, I sought journalistic assignments. There's always something that feels less blocky than the rest.
Let's have an Oilers-Habs final, give Bettman a coronary, and have a party whichever team wins!
I'm not getting any younger, I've made more than enough stuff for public consumption over the years (games, tv, comedy, academic history, etc.) and the kind of fiction that I like to write isn't in high demand, so...
Write as usual, but on a cruise ship sailing around the world twice?
Well, you're getting at least one of those today. I hope it won't make you change your mind about what you love. 🤷♂️
telling a bunch of Americans about how all the schools you went to had corporal punishment and noting the increasing looks of horror on their faces with satisfaction before realising you have been calling it capital punishment from the start
"You give dead mice to children?"
Well, I do tend to say "please, god, no" a lot when I hear him talk. 🤷♂️
Taking notes. Worth a shot. 🤷♂️
"Beware of giant bug with Premee Mohammed" would work for at least a decade.
The sheer number of news items that make me think: "Wouldn't it be better/simpler/both if they all just drowned?" is exhausting.
Especially when said cabinet member is even insaner.
What's your writing routine like? And what are you reading now?
That more than three people with whom I am not on a first-name basis will enjoy it enough to say so in public.
Gorgeous office!
I hesitated between the steamroller and a Katamari. In the end I went with the classic!
"Next time, don't chase the steamroller!"
The Montreal Canadiens five straight Stanley Cups (1956-1960).
JD Vance telling Trump how to act like an asshole.
Actially, that one might work!
Dafuq?
Still sounds better than the unemployment of historians to which I used to belong.
Makes sense. I stopped working on Indigenous history after the MA because doing so at the PhD level would have required a level of involvement that wasn't mine to make. (And if I want a diverse POV character in my fiction, I can always make it an elf or a space alien!)
We’re delighted to announce Tales from the Territory, in which award-winning storyteller @travisbaldree.bsky.social takes us back to the Territory in a heart-warming set of five stories: subterraneanpress.com/newsannounci...
I also think if you’re a CEO presiding over layoffs of a certain size, 10% of those laid off (chosen at random) should get to spin a wheel to see how much of your stock compensation they get to receive. there are two bonus wedges where they get all of your TC
I lack imagination.
Also: for the longest time, I carried a handle that included the name of the server on which the account had been created, which happened to be the name of an Egyptian deity. Funny at 29, harder to explain at 40.
Death, taxes, and Jeff Hoffman blowing a save.
Pick me! Pick me! I would do it myself, but I'm too lazy to fill out the form.
(There is actually a form.)
It's like copying your homework off the rich douchebag who never studies and paying for the privilege by setting an endangered species on fire.
