Hey friends -
Who's been doing non-traditional humanities dissertations in the past ~5 years?
Tons of fabulous resources from ~2021 and before, but wondering what cool people have been doing lately. References? Links? Exploring new options for our department.
I draw the line at spiders as big as the palm of my hand. NO THANK YOU
Good sound!
Normally drink my coffee with nothing it. Just got a supplemental vanilla latte because I am sleep deprived and drew noticeable glances because of the sound I made when I drank it for the first time.
I’m trying to use a physical planner and to do list for the first time in like….15 years. I needed the chaos.
Virginia: if you haven't gone to vote yet you gotta go do it today because you can't do it tomorrow

It’s not too late to celebrate my birthday, which was yesterday, by reading this blog, today.
ICYMI I shared some ideas for using @dhawards.bsky.social to introduce various ways into the field for students.
💜 getting to work with so many stellar students, in these fellowships & beyond:
I found two wolf spiders in our place after we moved in. I was one away from taking a match to the place.
Usually means someone (me) is about to burn the house down.
“When viewed in the context of the page I did NOT attach, this paper really was an A.”

Then the writing is bad.
Thank you for every vote! I am really happy that Sappho Digital turned out to be the first runner-up in the category »DH Dataset or Model« of the Digital Humanities Awards 2025! I’d like to use this moment to introduce the project a bit more – so here’s a short thread 🧵
I'm proud that Responsible Datasets in Context (RDIC) also won a DH Award for Best Training Materials.
This is a project with @electrostani.bsky.social, @miriamposner.com, Sylvia Fernández, and Anna Preus.

Fun to see that "Bears Will Be Boys," which I wrote with folks from the @puddingviz.bsky.social, won a 2025 Digital Humanities Award!

Yes indeed! Glad they feel like a useful starting point.
All excellent pedagogical ideas! There is the limitation of course that it is not necessarily representative and that we do not screen for quality. Part of your Take 5, Pick 1 idea would presumably be considering such a quality, with then a discussion of why they think that makes something 'better'.
I wrote up a quick set of teaching ideas in honor of this year's @dhawards.bsky.social. Here are a few different ways that I might use that site in the classroom with students to find new projects, think critically, and speculatively design their own awards.

Copilot: how can I help?
Me: no I want to go to that link and not be redirected here.
Copilot: oh frustrating. Unfortunately I can’t do that.
In your case this would be…go to bed at 4pm?
A really thought provoking reflection on the pressure to judge our worth (own and others) by what we do or what we create.
Baby's first email to the DLF announce list :0
Monkey’s paw situation where every Far Side comic is prophesy.
Remains my most controversial take, but sometimes you do need to just go to bed at 7:30PM.
Piano and arranging music
Woof sending so much appreciation. Very sorry that you also get beset by trolls.
