Those include concerns about health, small businesses and the availability of the river for recreation and sports. As a Councilmember, I will exercise vigorous oversight to prevent an event like this from happening again and make sure that we monitor and alleviate the harms to our waterways. /5
It was obvious from the discussion and questions at the forum that there are complex issues surrounding the conditions in the river and canal, on the land near the sewage overflows and the condition of the infrastructure that will have to be resolved... /4
As so many residents expressed last night, it is only the first step. I want to thank the representatives from DC Water, WSSC, the state of Maryland and the county for engaging with residents; that said, it was clear that this can only be the beginning of the public consultation process.../3
This event is one that will affect Montgomery County residents, particularly those in the area I seek to represent, for many years to come. I appreciate the long hours and hard work of so many to dramatically reduce the overflow into the Potomac.../2
I stayed until 10 last night at the Whitman meeting on the Potomac sewer disaster, listening to presentations and talking with people. Here are some of my thoughts...
ALERT - SEWAGE SPILL:
On Thursday, Feb 26 at 7PM, DC Water is holding a community meeting at the cafeteria in Walt Whitman High School, on the recent sewage spill. This is your chance to ask about what’s going on and voice your concerns directly to the people responsible for cleaning up the spill.
