felt compelled to look up ICE authority for warrantless arrests

if I'm reading this correctly, the circumstances under which ICE can arrest a citizen are basically limited to 'I literally saw you commit a felony and you're about to escape and no one's gonna be able to get a warrant'

this aint that

Pathways to Commercial Liftoff Reports Learn more about how ow LPO supports the Department's Commercial Liftoff reports.

DOE commercial liftoff reports have been disappeared www.energy.gov/lpo/pathways...
Great, smart reports with little political agenda. A real shame. We have them archived as do your ex-DOE colleagues I'm sure.

Don't look now, but we're teetering on the verge of a truly historic moment.

The Risk-Impact Paradox of Global Cooling Global cooling poses unprecedented risks unlike carbon removal. Solutions that might save us could also threaten us—how do we navigate this paradox?

Where does the recent flurry of funding announcements for geoengineering solutions lead us?

Some timely words from Paul Gambill about the methodologies and questions required to handle such an ambitious and unprecedented future.

OpenAI can’t afford to ignore Hollywood’s warning OpenAI’s Hollywood misadventure is reminiscent of an earlier dispute between the media industry and Silicon Valley.

🚨 Excited to share an op-ed I wrote for @fortune.com about OpenAI’s recent attempt to partner with Hollywood -- and what it reveals about the future of AI and creative industries.

The good news? AI companies have a chance to see that that the ethical and economic incentives are actually aligned.

The pause on dispersement of all federal grants doesnt just impact NEW grants not yet awarded. It applies also to grants already awarded & under contract, funds people are legally entitled to and counting on to make payroll. That's illegal & must be halted immediately. Courts must enforce the law.🔌💡

W/ govt spending data, I always expect some manual cleaning/categorization, but this is super useful - thanks for sending!

(And sorry for being the portal party pooper... but to your point, a miracle it lasted this long)

Excellent piece!

Logistics question here: in your research, did you come across a third party dataset or site that cleanly tracks DoD grants over time?

Was hoping DoD climate resilience portal had that information but it's unfortunately now down :/

Solar Was the Biggest Non-Loser of Trump’s First Day While wind got hammered, the fastest growing renewable energy source emerged relatively unscathed.

Now, that's a headline. #energysky #greensky heatmap.news/politics/sol...

100% agree.

I'm no policy expert, but the advantage of traditionally Dem ideas (civil rights, climate, safety nets, etc) is that in the end, these ideas should win out and Dems can say "we told you so - trust us." But the prereq is standing by those ideas or risk countermsging of Dem hypocrisy.

Opposition will be hard enough. What will Dems do if the bill creates a culture of baseless accusation against migrants? Or if a state AG sues a future Dem Administration under the provisions of this bill and hobbles immigration policy?

Cry foul on something they helped pass?

Virtual Power Plants - Pathways to Commercial Liftoff Learn more about the U.S. Department of Energy’s Pathways to Commercial Liftoff Report on Virtual Power Plants

The Updated #VirtualPowerPlant liftoff report is out! We are on track to deploying 160GW of flexibility by 2030 -- this is the only way to help utility companies keep rate increases to the rate of inflation.

The report adds case studies already at scale! Just need to push!

Fwiw, it's the best all-in-one webinar I watch every year, and I'm thrilled my former employer is shining a light on emergent energy needs, even if he's overly focused on Nuclear.

Fwiw, Apple Podcasts app automatically offers this. Not always perfect but does the job.

Fwiw2, I started building something that makes convos from the climate pod ecosystem queryable because yours and a handful of other podcasts were so dang useful for me in shifting to climate work - thanks!

#ClimateVC folks in #EnergySky / #ClimateSky:

What are the best examples of businesses/people thinking through climate trends/problems and NOT pattern matching?

Terrific recap by Tom O'Keefe on the challenge and responsibility climate media has when platforming (perhaps well-intentioned) O&G representatives.

Energy has been Mr. Consistent among climate tech categories. Through Q3, energy solutions are not on track to pass 2022 dollars, but the story is the same: solar & storage solutions pull the majority of dollars raised in energy again, with wind spiking.

Some back-of-napkin figures suggest that non-accredited investors are equally likely to invest their dollars in climate tech solutions (next-gen technology & adaption-oriented consumer products alike) as professional investors. 2022 saw peak enthusiasm.

I had a lot of fun pulling some data on the small (emphasis on “small”) but mighty role that non-accredited investors are increasingly playing in climate.

If anyone in #EnergySky has experience raising in RegCF environments, I’d love to hear what you learned!

A couple key findings:
