How do you measure the domestic mental load? 🧐
And how does your experience stack up against our research of 3,000 US parents?
I created a quiz using the same approach we use in peer-reviewed sociological research so you can find out!
Hope this sparks some conversations 💡

It was great to host the Comparative Representation in Advanced Parliamentary Democracies workshop at UT. It is always fun and inspiring to hear about the cutting-edge research. @utgovernment.bsky.social
Brief pause from maternity leave to share that the article "Nonpartisan ballots and the partisanship of who serves in office", co-authored with the amazing Dan Butler and Adam Dynes, has just been accepted at @thejop.bsky.social: www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/abs/10.1...

Download our new book for FREE! Thiago, Laron, and I explain why studying whether and how voters know what parties want (and who goes with whom) is important and layout a framework for how to do this better. Check out the cover, promotional comic, and abstract

So proud of @gdilandro.bsky.social for successfully defending his thesis "Political Parties and the Gender Voting Gap in Western Democracies: A Supply and Demand Framework." He's already published one dissertation paper in @bjpols.bsky.social & there's more great gender & politics work to come! 🍾
I show the feminization strategy doesn’t always work to reduce voter punishment for corruption in LatAm. But in Guatemala where women’s rep is low & “fairer sex” stereotypes more prevalent amongst survey respondents, voters punish a party less post-scandal when new candidate is a woman. Read more👇🏻📑:
🚨 REPLICATION REPORT UPDATE: One year ago, a tweet by John Holbein alerted me, @ollefolke.bsky.social, and @jopieboy.bsky.social to a paper with a shocking result about Sweden’s law criminalizing the purchase of sex.🧵

In a late-breaking development, UCLA political science has successfully cut a deal with Cesar Vargas Nuñez, who will be joining our roster in ‘26.
This guy has it all: sharp intellect, highly productive, and an all around great human being. Big win for our department & university.

About 214,000* Germans living abroad had registered to vote** in yesterday's election. Because this was a snap election with a compressed timeline, many voters didn't receive their absentee ballots in time.*** I'm one of them: mine arrived today. The day after the election.
"Why parties can benefit from promoting occupational diversity in legislatures" is out @ajpseditor.bsky.social
@miacosta.bsky.social and I describe an incentive-compatible mechanism for parties to recruit candidates with different occupational backgrounds. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
Amazing news and obviously so so well deserved! Congrats Zeynep and I hope we'll get to celebrate this soon! 🥳
How does the “mental load” of taking care of family and household influence decisions about participating in public life?
In a new @bjpols.bsky.social paper w @annanhelgoy.bsky.social we use a survey experiment priming domestic mental load to find out.

Bei mir kommt es auch heute nicht an und damit hat sich dann auch FedEx/DHL endgültig erledigt 🤷
I also don't know anyone in the US who has received their ballot yet. Monday is a holiday and also the last day to drop them off in most consulates (www.germany.info/us-de/269598...). DHL would need it by Wednesday and cost $90. Absolutely wild to think how many people won't have a chance to vote.
🚨 Women will disappear from the next Bundestag! While national news reports close to equal % of women candidates compared to 2021 shorturl.at/KSYvj, the upcoming election on Feb 23 will lead to an even more male-dominated parliament. Here's why the new electoral system is pushing women out—🧵
