Again: for any big liberal donor who wants to funnel millions into fixing this country's politics, the ROI on buying any struggling paper and simply tasking it with doing real reporting on local news is vastly higher than the same $$ given to some group that does mass ad buys every election year.

LAPD Chief McDonnell's refusal to enforce the "No Secret Police Act" is no aberration. It's reflection of a vision for LAPD that is fundamentally incompatible with the reform-minded direction L.A. has been struggling toward for 50 years.

The federal government is afraid of your whistles and your emails.
"At the same time as Ghislaine Maxwell was orchestrating one of the most notorious sex-trafficking operations in our country's history, she was allegedly romantically involved with the person now serving as Chair of LA28. Casey Wasserman should step aside immediately. Anything less is a distraction and undermines efforts to make sure the Games truly reflect the values of a city that is for everyone." - Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez

Now LA City Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martínez, who also sits on the city's ad hoc Olympics and Paralympics committee, is calling for LA28 chair Casey Wasserman to step down
Here's one LA elected official making a statement: “I think Casey Wasserman needs to step down,” says LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn. “Having him represent us on the world stage distracts focus from our athletes and the enormous effort needed to prepare for 2028"

The clergy just keep coming to this anti-ICE protest.
Genuinely unclear where they all will go — it’s packed outside on the sidewalk already.
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.
