I can’t say anything about my son absconding with my Hobbit and Lord of the Rings books. I swiped them from my dad. I guess it’s become tradition

My signed edition of the Arkadians by Lloyd Alexander who gave a talk at the New York Public Library Annual Children’s meeting. He was a great speaker and genuinely nice man
I read the Dragonriders of Pern for the first time in junior high school and fell in love
I have a Rick Riordan shelf. Love his books.
I first read The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings when I was 9. My family was going to visit my dad’s relatives in England and I needed enough reading material to keep me occupied on the flight over & back. My son appropriated them when he was in middle school & I never got them back.
I just ordered them on ThriftBooks. Have you read the Dark Is Rising sequence by Susan Cooper? An amazing series that I still reread periodically
What are your favorites from that time? I read a lot of fantasy and acid fiction when I was that age.
This is my first post here. Not sure what to expect.
I’m a native New Yorker and a former children’s librarian. I love to read and have books everywhere. I love animals and nature and would rather go hiking than go to a bar. I’m a blue dot in a sea of red. That’s the cliff notes version.
