My article "The More Things Change" has now come out in World Politics.

I say more in the quoted thread, but I just wanted to add that this article - while dealing with some serious issues - was a really engaging and rewarding piece to work on.

Also very sorry for the massive tagging effort. If it helps, it took me forever to painstakingly but also haphazardly comb through my follow list to find people/institutions.

It's largely based off of the dissertation theory, which may be more helpful. There's also a grain sector chapter in that.

There was a whole APSA related debate about this a while back. I'm not sure there is a direct V-Dem/Freedom House comparison, but PS had a special issue a while back on democratic backsliding and coder-related issues.

How does the "never Trump Republican" becomes a "sometimes Trump Democrat"?

The answer: he was always on the far right, but just didn't like the garishness of the MAGA movement.

South African President Talks Trump, Racism and That Oval Office ‘Ambush’

South Africa's president has given an unusually direct interview about Trump, to the NYT.

“I do think the Afrikaner policy is racist... It is that racist sort of demeanor that we want to be able to whittle down so that he can see the truth of the situation.”

If employers don't pay, then the extension will massively punish migrants - especially those with families who have to pay the cost for each family member - and those with lower salary prospects.

It's truly a nonsensical strategy.

But that cost will fall back on the state. Some workplaces, like universities, will bear that cost. But as we all know, UK higher ed can't really afford that. It will be the state inefficiently taxing both itself and the private sector.
