I get it, that’s usually how it goes for me too

Those mechanisms will wear out, and imo are probably better set aside carefully and consciously than allowed to serve until they break.

I think you are on the right track in observing the cost of sensory notifications and advise eliminating as many electronic bids for attention as possible.

Coulda hired an attorney general who would do anything at all about anything at all during the entire first two years of his administration.

“Blameless” is never an appropriate word for a president regarding the actions or inactions of anyone in their administration. That’s how hierarchies work.

For-profit companies have irreconcilable conflicts of interest when providing care to vulnerable people.

Quote stating that the AFT under Weingarten has accepted $12.5 million from MS, $8 million from OpenAI, and half a mil from Anthropic.
No word on how much she personally has collected.

So here’s the money they dumped in AFT. The question now is whether Weingarten has also accepted anything personally or is just genuinely sold on the “opportunities” AI offers to shortcut legitimate education.

Precisely how much are they paying you?

Please include all “retreats,” “conferences,” “forums,” and other giveaways they have used to convince you to sell out all of our children in your accounting.

Rev. Jesse Jackson's "I *am* somebody..." remains one of the all-time great pieces of 20th century rhetoric / agitprop

And he could deliver it at a Black separatist meeting, the Democratic National Convention, or on god-blessed Sesame Street (see below 🥹)

How is it inevitable? By what specific mechanism is this “inevitable” circumstance to arise from “whatnot?”

I’m glad you took a 3-hour deep dive that convinced you “actually humans haven’t been replaced just yet,” but you’re apparently still lapping up the “e-slaves are our promised destiny” bit.

One of my most deeply held beliefs is that refusing to name truth makes you stupid--literally degrades your intellect.

If you’re just figuring out now that yes, it really is fascism, that’s fantastic & I think you’re great & I’m glad we’re on the same side. I don’t need to scold you. My desire for “told-ya-so” is as useless as your denial was. Let’s move on together to the fight at hand, each as we feel called. 1/2

All the anti-war and anti-occupation protestors were right. All the far leftists were right. All the “woke scolds” and your friend who’s “too woke” were right. They were somehow even more right than they may have realized at the time. But really, it was always obvious they were right.

The Democratic Party is not only not opposition they are in fact a core pillar of MAGAs legitimacy, perhaps the most consistent force (outside of the literally billionaire-purchased media) in normalizing Trumps regime. Schumer and Jeffries aren't "inept", they're collaborators, our Vichy

Abject refusal to own the errors of one’s own ways.

“Sure, I’m liberal now, but I was conservative when conservatives were great!”

No, Joe, you were ignorant when ignorance was easier, and that ignorance hurt people.

You could always abolish your unquestioning belief in racist, right-wing talking points instead.

“the product of years of cultivated political hatred“
That, or the fact that one party lives in the community and the other party is expressly there to disappear people from the community.
Maybe that.

We know school administrators, like the rest of the world that doesn’t do real work, are being wined and dined into forking over education dollars to AI companies.

At a certain point, union administrators become just another layer of admin, being wined and dined into selling us and the kids out.

'I believe that maturity is not an outgrowing but a growing up: that an adult is not a dead child, but a child who survived... all the best faculties of a mature human being exist in the child... one of the most deeply human, and humane, of these faculties is the power of imagination’ Ursula le Guin

The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

Unfortunately, in US journalism it is considered neutral to spread a lie, but it is considered "biased" to call out a lie. So, there is a structural asymmetry that rewards colorful lies with virality.

DNC sees something like this and says “this means we can run neolibs that are personally 10 points underwater and still win by 1 point at least 51% of the time! No reason not to!”

We Don’t Know Where We Will End Up… A Year Since the 2024 Election

This video is so overwhelming I had to sit down & stare at the wall awhile. I was physically shaking.

I had heard some of these anecdotes before - Proctorio & Tubman bot - but Tanksley synthesizes them (with much much more), revealing undeniable regime of EdTech racialized surveillance & policing…

Imagine thinking that holding AI companies accountable for the harms they cause is a “cost.”

Hello Chief and APD Leadership,

I just wanted to jot a quick thank you note for those who participated in this meeting with the Latino community about ICE in our neighborhoods.

Sadly, this problem is not going away anytime soon. Historically, the police have been on the wrong side of history during the civil rights movement and the labor movement - defending capital. The pivotal points in American history are when police realized that their solidarity should be with labor; not capital.

Labor vs. police: Learning from working-class history Workers World

In this current struggle, I believe that we are 2-3 years away from a moment where we see the shift in solidarity.

I would like to see Aurora lead, and show something different. It will create discomfort during the transformation. I noticed during the march towards Blue Kangaroo, when the police escort disappeared, that activists I didn't know used their vehicles to block the intersections and protect the marchers.

All living things have the capacity to evolve and grow. Government is about to go through a huge evolutionary period and shed that which is not necessary, and re-focus on what is important.

As government continues to disintegrate from the top down, we have an opportunity to re-invent the ways we find food, water, shelter and protection.

We would like the Aurora Police Department to play a historic role in defending the United States of America, and our city against fascism. We have a unique opportunity to do something different, leave our mark in the history books, and make a difference. I'm excited about the opportunity and look forward to discussing it further.

Respectfully, John Laesch Mayor, City of Aurora laesch@aurora.il.us

I haven't seen people here mention this letter from the mayor of Illinois' 2nd-largest city (Aurora, 40+% Latino)

to the Aurora Police

following egregious attacks by immigration in Aurora and related protests

So here it is!
