This story hasn't gotten the attention it deserves, but it's one of the most incredible stories I've ever been part of. It taught me so much about faith and persistence.
I'm beyond grateful to everyone who was supportive then. Your support changed the course of SCC transit 🫶

5 years later, VTA has recovered and has the opportunity to grow, while most agencies face deficits.
Convincing leaders to support service restoration during the darkest days of the pandemic was one of the hardest things I've ever done, but it was so worth it.
5 years ago, I became the first transit advocate at a major bus agency in the Bay Area to get a staff rec for full service restoration.
Revenue was down. Ridership was down by ~60%. Vaccines were just getting rolled out.
It was a campaign based on faith and it worked.

It’s not easy to keep white shirts clean. I already got ink on it from the paper lol
On Saturday, the community paid tribute to the “father of modern transit” Rod Diridon, who died on Friday.

Happy Easter ✨
Beautiful tribute to Diridon in today’s paper by Sal Pizarro 🫶
“There’s no other name over the past 50 years that still resonates the way Diridon does. Everyone knows that name even if they didn’t know who he was.”
He was there for so many of us and advocating for SCC and transit until the end. The last thing we talked about was breaking the Levi's ridership record (on his birthday) and future plans for transit.
He was so present in a way that I hadn't experienced before I met him.
Diridon's faith and persistence were truly unmatched 🥹

Truly. The legend of all transit legends.
Truly beyond words. Rod did so much for so many of us.
He taught me to never give up, even when faced with the most difficult challenges.
I’ll always remember that and try my best to keep his legacy alive 🫶

So many things are possible if you believe they are and say things that reinforce what you want (in this case, recovery).
In times of crisis, I see so many people reinforce the opposite of what they want. It’s really important to zoom out in those moments.
I think at least 90% of this was our rides genuinely seeing value in the service and wanting to come back.
But I would walk 139.4 miles and 305,024 steps again and again to prevent doomers from controlling the narrative.
Faith is so important in the darkest times.
(not April fools)
March 2025: 17-day strike. No VTA transit service for 18 days.
March 2026: Highest March ridership since pre-pandemic.

Today is Trans Day of Visibility. Trans, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming people have always been here — from the hijra of India to the Diné nádleehi to the leaders who built the modern LGBTQIA+ movement here in New York. Your existence is not up for debate. Your lives are not a political issue. We're fighting for a city where every trans New Yorker can live openly, safely, and with joy.
The Supreme Court just struck down Colorado’s law banning the psychological torture of LGBTQ youth, aka conversion therapy. Colorado’s law is similar to California’s.
We anticipated this ruling, so I introduced SB 934, which makes it much easier for LGBTQ people to bring malpractice claims … 🧵
It shouldn’t be controversial or difficult for a Democrat to say conversion therapy should be banned for minors.
