An unfortunate consequence of people becoming more aware of space junk is people (who presumably don’t look at the sky much) posting contrails on social media believing they’re seeing space junk or meteors.

I think there was official neutrality but some modest cooperation with the allies during WW2 such as allowing the passage of aircraft and sharing weather information.
