Many civilians have cancelled their parties and dinners. Across the planet, the only sign of this day are Earth and Vulcan flags hanging from windows or doors.
The ceremony in Bozeman, Montana was cancelled shortly after the Xindi attack. Prime Minister Hanna Rocard gives a heavily revised speech from the capital of Lagos. Ambassador Soval also gives a speech from the Vulcan embassy in Agadir.
#OnThisDay, 2153:
Vulcan-Earth Friendship Day, which was meant to commemorate the 90th anniversary of First Contact, is celebrated as a muted affair across the planet, a far cry from the day of festivities as it had been for nearly 60 years.
#OnThisDay, 2153:
Eight days after the Xindi attack, Earth cancels all Unification Day celebrations that were due to take place tomorrow. Vulcan-Earth Friendship Day, to be held on April 5, is also cancelled.
A peek into the life of the Tucker family, twenty years before they were ripped apart by the Xindi attack.
At 10:57am, Earth was attacked by a then-unknown alien species. Seven million people were killed as cities, towns, and villages from Florida to Venezuela were wiped out. It was a horrendous tragedy that sparked an odyssey beyond what anyone could imagine.
On the eve of the Xindi attack, here is Kelly Wright's own recollections of those final fateful hours.
All rise for the national anthem of United Earth.
Star Trek Enterprise scene. It's an image of the White House in Washington, DC. Four long and tall Nazi banners in bright red are draped across the front and a Nazi flag on a flagpole flies above the building. A tank is stationed on the front lawn. No caption. RIP Renee Good. RIP Alex Pretti. Fuck ICE.
Commentary on Foreigners (c. 1420), Ming Official He Ao He Ao was a censor, a high official in the provincial bureaucracy of the Ming Empire. The censorate was part of the central state. Responsible directly to the emperor, it was tasked with rooting out corruption at the local level. This document, in which He describes the threats posed by Europeans (called Feringis), is an official government report to his superiors. Identify the factors He used to mark foreigners as different, and evaluate their relative significance. Pay special attention to his language and the terms he used. What specific threats resulting from European influence does He identify, and what remedies does he propose? Explain the distinction this document draws between the way trade was conducted in the past (in the “time of our ancestors”) and in the present. What is He’s view of commerce? The Feringis are most cruel and crafty. Their arms are superior to those of other foreigners. Some years ago they came suddenly to the city of Canton, and the noise of their cannon shook the earth [these were cannon-shots fired as a salute by the fleet of Fernão Peres]. Those who remained at the post-station [places where foreigners were lodged] disobeyed the law and had intercourse with others. Those who came to the Capital were proud and struggled [among themselves?] to become head. Now if we allow them to come and go and to carry on their trade, it will inevitably lead to fighting and bloodshed, and the misfortune of our South may be boundless.
The more you know
#Didyouknow “Feringi” is a Chinese term for the uncivilized European barbarian merchants and missionaries who show up in East Asia in the 15/16th Century and start ruining things. h/t to @starfleethist.bsky.social
The crew also held interpersonal events, such as concerts, game sessions, prayer circles, sport matches, and various other activities. Despite the relatively basic features aboard Enterprise, it was hard pressed to get bored.
Located on G Deck, Enterprise contained a library of more than 200 physical books, with countless more held digitally. With three armchairs, it was a very relaxing room for the crew to unwind.
Movie Night was the most frequent form of entertainment. It was organized by Commander Trip Tucker and Crewman Annie Naiman, being held on Tuesdays in the mess hall.
"How do you not get bored in space?"
Nadia Haddad of Jaffa, Israel-Palestine asked that question during one of Enteprise's monthly Q&A sessions with schoolchildren. Being on an extended voyage, it was vital that the crew did not succumb to boredom.
María joined Starfleet in 2143. On her first day of training, she met Klara Hess of Brandenburg Tor, and the two quickly became close friends. Serving together on the Saratoga, they joined their superior, Trip Tucker, when he was chosen to serve on Enterprise.
As a teen, María took up dancing. She was picked by the United Earth Ballet Company and played Clara in The Nutcracker three years in a row. But she soon found she had a passion for engineering, and felt she could make a career based on it.
María ran away from home afterwards, and was later found hiding in her grandmother's church. She asked why she saw her father's death, and her grandmother said "Only God can see the future." This would have a profound impact on María's life and faith.
On September 11, 2133, María woke up screaming. She had a dream in which her father was swept away in a landslide. He reassured her that it was a dream and that he would come home. That was the day of the Araçatuba disaster. Her father's body was never found.
Her parents, Filipe and Ana, doted on their daughter. Her elder twin brothers, Ricardo and Jorge, often played pranks on her, but she was always unfazed by them. She was closest to her grandmother and her father during her early childhood.
The life of María Paz Socorro was strongly tied to her Catholic faith. Her grandmother Sofia was one of the first women to become a priest following the Third Vatican Council. She was born the day after Maria Theresa became the first woman elected as Pope, becoming her namesake.
Did you know that...?
Captain Archer had a fondness for Jaffa oranges. Before Enterprise left spacedock, he specifically requested a supply of seeds for the hydroponics bay.
Tragically, Mr. Burke was killed in the Xindi attack on March 22.
The first film was an early role of actor Tyrone Burke. He originally had a small appearance as the Freak Show Host. However, the audience reaction to him was surprisingly strong, leading to his role being greatly expanded as a trickster mentor for Jack and launching his film career.
The Ringmaster condemns Jack to relive this night, forcing him to watch Sarah die again and again, each time in a different way. The sequel follows Jack as he attempts to learn more about the Ringmaster. The third film concludes with him finally breaking the curse and saving Sarah.
