Loved it - and for a bit of contrast, have you read Old God’s Time?
This from trade guru Richard Baldwin on Trump's trade war conduct is great. And helps explain why in fact he is not remaking the world economic order or anything else. He's just going to leave a huge mess behind. www.linkedin.com/pulse/trumps...
The global clean tech boom really is one of the biggest and most consequential economic, environmental, and geopolitical stories of the century. It remains beyond weird that it is so often treated as a second order issue at best. www.businessgreen.com/news/4528514...
@unroll.skywriter.blue unroll please!!!!
A big fat cesspit of grift and corruption covered with a thin veneer of concern for 'the people'
The reality of the new fascism as represented by Reform and by Trump
This is very compelling! Pete Buttigieg just gets it. The sheer humanity in this clip is why I like this man so much, everyone should watch it!!
Photo of researcher in hat talking to pensioner with baseball cap on… Dave Taylor (left) debates the local elections with John Doult, who says he will vote Reform at the upcoming local elections in Swindon (The Independent)
But on a visit to the former railway town last month, the outlook for Sir Keir and his party was bleak. "I'll be voting for Reform - it can't get any worse," said pensioner John Doult, until now a lifelong Labour voter who was among the thousands employed in the town's once-famous car industry. The 86-year-old bemoaned the "terrible" state of the town centre,
“I’ll be voting for Reform - it can’t get any worse”
Oh it really can.
You put a bunch of corrupt, racist, incompetent, lying Trumpists in charge and things will get very much worse.
Potholes and empty shops will feel unimportant compared to the loss of the NHS, social care and a torched economy.
STOP THE BORISWAVE A £20,000 BILL FOR EVERY BRITISH HOUSEHOLD. Britain Welcome to Britain Welcome to sa W Welcome to Britain
Reform's latest anti-immigration policy document, which they blame on Boris Johnson (hence him and Kemi on it), features an AI generated image of a mass of brown men in front of the sea

The Palentir statement on its desired “Technological Republic” is one of the scariest things I have seen in a while. It is a call for a world dominated by an authoritarian U.S., generated by AI (both the statement and the world), run by tech-surveillance companies. Technofascism pure!
Opening text of a thread by Palantir from X Because we get asked a lot. The Technological Republic, in brief. 1. Silicon Valley owes a moral debt to the country that made its rise possible. The engineering elite of Silicon Valley has an affirmative obligation to participate in the defense of the nation. 2. We must rebel against the tyranny of the apps. Is the iPhone our greatest creative if not crowning achievement as a civilization? The object has changed our lives, but it may also now be limiting and constraining our sense of the possible. 3. Free email is not enough. The decadence of a culture or civilization, and indeed its ruling class, will be forgiven only if that culture is capable of delivering economic growth and security for the public. 4. The limits of soft power, of soaring rhetoric alone, have been exposed. The ability of free and democratic societies to prevail requires something more than moral appeal. It requires hard power, and hard power in this century will be built on software.
Palantir put out a 22-point summary of their CEO's book The Technological Republic. It's pitched as a defence of the West, but if you read it through the VDA framework, verification, deliberation, accountability, what it's actually doing looks rather different.

Great price on the (geopolitical) vulnerabilities of the global food system because of its dependency on fossil fuels.
A cross party group of MPs including @labourlewis.bsky.social, Lib Dem @andrewgeorge00.bsky.social and Green @elliechowns.bsky.social have demanded action against a British tax haven helping oil companies dodge tax on their record profits:

The significant year on year fall on boat arrivals is broadly unreported by BBC or other media. It has less to do with imminent government changes currently going through than a fall in "push factors" that is Europe-wide
With Trump’s encouragement, the nuclear industry is increasingly evading regulation, causing “serious public safety concerns”.

Fossil fuel companies are lining their pockets with the profits of climate breakdown and war. Imagine $30m/hr went into renewables and helping households with energy bills instead of corporate bank accounts... We need a strengthened windfall tax on big polluters

Heartbreaking description of the pointless, thoughtless damage being done to the Kennedy Center. It was such an important part of life in Washington, and is now being destroyed for no reason
