How is it fair that motorcyclists are targeted in what's supposed to be a no-blame/no-fault system, when numerous other high-risk groups pay nothing, eg recreational fishermen, trampers, swimmers, etc, etc?

I'm aware what the levies are used for, and all good stuff (ACC is a great model), but that doesn't justify targeted charging of SOME groups while other high-cost groups are NOT targeted does it. --Either charge EVERY high-cost group for extra costs, or flatten the entire costs out across everyone.

Motorcyclists put rego on hold in protest against ACC Motorcyclists are putting their bike registrations on hold in protest at what they say are unfair increases to ACC levies.

Who can blame them - it's not fair motorists are targeted for ACC levies, when other high-cost groups are not, eg rugby, recreational fishermen, mountaineering/trampers, sailing, car passengers, swimmers, etc. —Fund ACC from general taxes & commercial levies. #NZ

Collecting statistics: When the numbers don't add up Statistics are a vitally important tool to plan and inform government policy - but when they're wrong or misleading, trust is at risk.

Ex-govt statistician alarm over ditching NZ's 5-year census. And resulting f-ups will get worse: In the last few weeks, MBIE struggled with accurate fuel figures; MoH dealt with confusion over Covid death figures; and Stats NZ screwed up the Food Price Index...

A reminder that NZ's Government had NOT fixed the cost-of-living crisis, and food etc was still CRAZY EXPENSIVE the whole time BEFORE Trump's attacks on Iran. The oil price will worsen this, obviously —but let's not pretend that this Government EVER achieved anything to lower the price of food etc.

Cuban protesters ransack Communist office as energy crisis deepens Discontent is mounting over rolling blackouts and shortages of food, fuel and medicine, exacerbated by a US blockade.

Make no mistake this crisis is NOT being caused by Cuba's politics, but is being caused DELIBERATELY by the USA, who has stopped any oil (50% of Cuba's energy) from getting to Cuba for 3 MONTHS, and threatened other countries with tariffs if they sell oil to Cuba.

Local government minister Simon Watts can't guarantee rates cap won't increase social housing rents Simon Watts said the final rates cap policy is still being designed, but didn't anticipate it would cause higher costs for those living in roughly 10,000 council-owned rental homes.

The truth about Govt imposed rates-caps on local-bodies. —They will almost certainly guarantee big rent increases for pensioners etc in social housing in many areas. Caps are INTENDED to do exactly this - and force local-bodies to sell off public assets and services.

DCC tenants fearful of annual rent rises A rent rise of 8% for Dunedin community housing tenants will put pressure on vulnerable people, residents say. However, the increase is well short...

Shame on DCC 😢 —This 8% increase is on top of 14.5% increase in the past two years, ie it's well above inflation and well above pensioners' income increases. Normally unfair, this is more than mean-spirited during a cost-of-living crisis.

When John Key sold 1000 state homes, it made headlines & sparked debate

Now Chris Bishop has cancelled 3500 builds & selling 900 houses (with land extra) in what's been called a private developers' lolly scramble, it's hardly making a splash
