I understand this, though I do think the "red flag" thing is being slightly misinterpreted. These are forms used for the purposes of informing a decision taken by more senior people. They have to tick green, amber or red. The senior people obv have to take red seriously (even if borderline). But...

Which is exactly why Starmer has now changed that process, he was horrified too. It is a defence, nobody can be held responsible for something they didn't know. Lost amongst all this is Mandelson was a Privy Councillor, he already had access to high level security information.

No matter how much I read, I just cannot fathom the idea that civil servants should *not* tell ministers that their choice to be US Ambassador has red flags from Security Vetting.

That's *not* a defence of Starmer - and Robbins may have been applying the rules correctly. But the rule seems insane.

Anyway, I see many of you have very strong views as to the two or three things that definitely prove Starmer is indecent, so I'll just leave you to discuss them - and wish you the best of luck with your choice of Saint Saviour, who definitely has never done or said two or three questionable things.

Starmer is a decent person who just doesn't have what it takes to do the job. That's the unglamorous truth. The trouble with building moralistic scaffolding around it, pretending he's The Devil just to make ourselves feel a bit better, is that after he's gone, what will remain is our own dishonesty.
