Close up of a yellow witch hazel flower
A shot of an mature witch hazel tree with yellowing leaves. There are fallen leaves on the ground and bare branches from other trees at the edges of the photo.
Witch Hazel is blooming just in time for spooky season!
The American witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) is perhaps Virginia's latest blooming native tree. The threadlike yellow flowers open only after the leaves have started to fall, and can often remain on the tree through the end of November.
