Shifting blame to other municipalities doesn’t solve the crisis, it just abandons those most at risk. We need leadership that prioritizes solutions, not delays.

Temporary pause on new supportive housing in Downtown Eastside approved | Urbanized Vancouver City Council has approved a temporary pause on any net new supportive housing units in the Downtown Eastside.

Vancouver City Council’s decision to pause new supportive housing in the DTES is a cruel and shortsighted move. With homelessness at record highs, this moratorium will push more people onto the streets instead of providing the housing they desperately need.

Poilievre is losing ground thanks to the Trump effect A plurality of Conservative supporters in Canada support Donald Trump. Do they realize that's about to cost them the next federal election?

Turns out being supported by the same people who support Trump, copying Trumps lazy insult lines, doing Trump-like things like refusing to get the normal security clearance (assuming he CAN get it), & generally wanting to BE Canada’s Trump isn’t all that popular in Canada.

Urbanists should make a good effort to use communication that’s clear and less likely to be misunderstood.

The people you need to convince are probably much less familiar with how zoning works than you are, and many of them will hear “end single-family zoning” as “ban single-family homes”.

Pierre Poilievre’s Pipe Dream: Imprison Drug Users for Life | The Tyee Just about every sale of fentanyl would apply, clogging our justice system. Time for a logic check.

The very same people that Pierre Poilievre promised to ‘bring home’ drug-free are now, by Poilievre’s own definition, ‘fentanyl kingpins’ who should be imprisoned for life.

Disappointed by The Rec Room’s building on #Granville. A heritage restoration is lovely, but where’s the vibrancy? No patios, no garage windows, no interaction with public space. It’s a fortress, not a place that invites people in. How does this add life to the street? Missed opportunity. #vanpoli

Hey EU, UK, Mexico etc you guys seem smart, funny and reliable trading partners who don’t illegally break relatively recent trade agreements by imposing ridiculously high tariffs to start a trade war against long-time partners & allies while plunging your nation into fascism.

Wanna do more trade?

Exclusive: Inside the Harper government's trashing of a research library The inside story on how one federal library's journals and documents ended up in a dumpster.

Hey Canada, as we watch the Trump admin erase info from public websites, remember when the Harper government muzzled scientists, shut research libraries and labs and tossed irreplaceable documents into dumpsters.

Yes it feels strange to post this much about “politics.” I don’t really like doing it. But what’s happening isn’t politics. It’s far worse than we’re letting ourselves contemplate. You may just want to hear about city-building but we all have a moral obligation to speak out about what they’re doing.

It's time to end our obsession with bloated big cities, like Vancouver and Toronto Douglas Todd: Future of housing affordability lies in providing more support to mid-sized centres, such as Kamloops

The recent CD Howe study arguing to push people out of big cities and into midsized cities had obvious, serious errors. Now it's been picked up by the most shameless anti-growther in Canadian media. vancouversun.com/opinion/colu...

Mark Carney has Canada’s Conservatives running scared Is it Carbon Tax Carney? Canapé Carney? Redistribution Carney? Right now, Canada's Conservatives can't even settle on a nickname for their likely opponent in the next federal election, much less a com...

“…a pair of recent polls shows a substantial rebound in Liberal fortunes, with both putting the Liberals back in the game in key battleground of Ontario. And with Conservatives still visibly divided over whether to respond to Trump’s threats by defending the country or just its oil & gas industry…”
