This is my favorite aspect of Jones style, having his animal characters look anthro and feeling like actual animals he must've studied actual giraffes for this cartoon

Nelly's mannerisms are very accurate

finding a way to make a giraffe of all animals this expressive is so impressive to me

Jones was simply built different

The Wacky Wabbit (1942, Bob Clampett)

Never watched the reboot but the 90s show was feminist. Slappy and Dot destroyed anyone that looked down on them; while sexy characters like Minerva Mink updated the Avery standard of someone who was sexy but capable; even Hello Nurse was meant to be a genius stuck as an object she bore with.

I like he's written as a loser but not outright incompetent, as if he carried over Foghorn's snark lol

Always found this to be the perfect mix. He's merely a more self-absorbed jerk that's still the prankster like Clampett, but it's moved onto swindling/scamming his victims mainly Porky

It's a very dynamic portrayal, especially with the introduction of Salesman Daffy

It's admirable for as long as he could, Mckimson was still clinging on to what Avery, Clampett perfected

What Mckimson was doing with the character as his personality shifted in the 50s, was like a proper evolution of being both a prankster and a jerk and I do wish this could be the standard

I hope the Hamish and Wilderback iteration is written close to this

The original Animaniacs is ironically more woke than its recent reboot and I can't stress how hilarious that is

That will always be hypocritical to me, like either commit or don't 😭

They really patted themselves on the back with how they updated Dot and it was just a lamer verison of that character.

Remember when Animaniacs 2020 prided itself on being feminist yet had less female characters, mostly men writers room and had writing decisons that are ironically more misogynistic than a show produced in the 90s lol.

Reactionary characters playing off a reactionary world would've been the way to go to update the shtick

The general concept of bringing back this show known for its variety as just two acts would lose momentum very quickly as the hype dying after the first season aired, because there's always been a expectation to bring everyone back

Quite revealing all these choices were intentional like the Warners being sane in a chaotic world, makes it more fitting for the more satirical, political take there going for.

But, something integral to their real appeal was sacrificed in the process leaving there segments often feel 'lacking'

This is so fascinating, seeing the people involved reflect on the reboot practically three years since it ended.

And it does provide certain insight of what was going on in the writer's room.
