No matter who is in power, there's never enough money for all the basic social supports working-class people depend on (along with disability support: healthcare, education, aged care etc). But there's somehow ALWAYS more than enough to spend on weapons and war.

From today, Australian Red Cross Lifeblood will use gender-neutral assessments for blood and platelets donations.
I wrote this skeet as a hypothetical and then 24 hours later π«
The owner could have spent money on any number of improvements (a screen door, repairing smashed concrete, upgrading kitchen pipes so they don't block every 6 months due to rust, or removing the broken dumped fire extinguisher that I've raised every 6 months since before I moved in). But naaaaah.
Because no one (electrical contractor, property manager) would speak to me, A Poor, they had gone through a whole quote and approval process to repair something that *was not broken*
I simply adjusted *my own home* to better suit me (and will return it in the same condition). How dare I.
Grumble grumble property managers are useless worthless cunts and I do not have the patience for this right now grumble grumble

The Victoria Cross recipient was arrested at Sydney Airport. He will face court in New South Wales on Tuesday afternoon to be formally charged.
Awkward scenes aboard Artemis II as Trump stops ranting and none of the astronauts have anything left to say to him, leading to extended dead air
When you're a little kid, you have to be toilet-trained. As an adult, it's second nature. But astronauts have to train to use space toilets. At one point NASA had a simulator with a video camera in the hole. Just imagine how much fun that was! #ArtemisII π§ͺ
Need to ban cars and trucks until we can sort this all out.
But I thought bicycles are the problem?
Was getting annoyed that I hadn't received some cool fungi fabric I ordered, went back to the order email to get the ref to contact them.
Turns out I didn't order it π
The fun thing about a bluesky post, is that you can just add a link. I would argue that a link is far more useful (not to mention accessible) for people.
Blanket getting washed again, as I had an unpleasant surprise when I got to bed last night. Hetta, why.
Our study aims to explore the impact of ongoing symptoms following COVID-19, often known as Long-COVID or post-COVID condition, in people who have not fully recovered after their initial infection. Some people keep having symptoms for weeks or even years after a COVID-19 infection. Common symptoms include tiredness, trouble thinking clearly ("brain fog"), shortness of breath, and trouble sleeping, but there are many others. Current understanding and support for these groups are limited. We want to understand how Long-COVID affect people over time, including changes in physical health, mood, daily activities, work, and overall quality of life. We invite individuals who have experienced ongoing symptoms after COVID-19 for more than four weeks to complete the screening questionnaire. If you are eligible and interested, you will be invited to complete a survey about the impacts of Long-COVID at seven time points over two years, which are as follows: Day 1 (the day you start the survey), Day 7, Month 3, Month 6, Month 12, Month 18 and Month 24. If your symptoms persist after two years, you will have the option to continue participating in the study for an additional year. If you take part in the study, you will receive a Coles-Myer gift card (up to $100 per year) as a token of our appreciation for your valuable contribution. If you have any questions, please email longcovidstudy@rmit.edu.au. If you are interested, please check your eligibility here: https://redcap.rmit.edu.au/surveys/?s=KN7NNCAPDTXF3HTD Please note that if you are eligible, a researcher will contact you by phone within 7 days of receiving your expression of interest. We can also communicate via email if preferred. The Participant Information and Consent Form (PICF) is provided for your information only. There is no need to sign or return the form to us, as we will go through the consent process over the phone.
Hey. Are you living in Australia and suffering #LongCOVID? A team at RMIT is studying the experience of LongCOVID and they are looking for participants. Your contribution could help understand the condition and generate advice for govt and health authorities. Details in flyer and alt text π
I'm reviewing Sapiens, one page at a time!
It's a little bit fact-checking and a little-bit soul-searching combined into a lot of feelings...

Yesterday I came across an article Leigh Sales wrote on Thursday when the ABC was on strike. It is one of the worst commentary pieces on Australian political-economic history I've read.
It was clear no one of quality was around to check her work or prevent it from being published. 1/13
Two in-the-wild Simpsons references I didn't expect this week: Bluey, and Supernatural.
The guy who wrote Up There Cazaly also wrote "lucky you're with aami".

SRY Gene testing using cheek swabs was used by the IOC between 1992 & 2000. It's not fit for purpose as a test as Professor Andrew Sinclair, who discovered the gene has stated previously & was banned due to flaws.
@seaningle.bsky.social, this is why doing research is so critical for journalists.
Of all the needles I've had this week, most went fairly smoothly. That is, all those done by women.
A man however, missed the vein (bruised), but managed to get the vein on the second try (also bruised). And the next day, got the vein first go, but bruised me again.
