Why is this not a national scandal? If 1000+ jobs were lost overnight in carmaking or steel it would be pure shock.

I wrote this book, which is about a writer but not a literary biography. It's published by a university press, but it's not an academic book. It's just a good story about an interesting life — and I keep hoping that someday someone else will mention that. Sigh.

Jeremy Prynne, prankster poet The famously obscure poetry of JH Prynne glitters with aphorisms and jokes

Very sorry to hear that the poet J.H. Prynne has died, at the age of 89. Here, from 10 years ago, is my attempt to describe the man and the work

Every time this tailor posts a photo of their workspace, it looks like their dog is a tailor and he's showing off the garments he made.

Congratulations to @martindoyle.bsky.social on the launch of A Hosting,a career spanning collection of 60 interviews with Irish writers over 35 years. A phenomenal achievement. What a great record of Irish writers and writing. Will be widely read and studied I'm sure.

A shot from the film showing the four men in summer shirts / tops - two of the men are smiling, while a third looks across at them. The other man is in the background and is harder to see.

DAYS AND NIGHTS IN THE FOREST (Satyajit Ray, 1970).
I loved this witty, humane, beautifully observed film about relationships, privilege, entitlement and class. Some interesting contrasts emerge when a group of middle class men travel to the forests to get drink and pick up girls. (1/3) #FilmSky

Believable Lies, a history of WW2 propaganda and disinformation, by me.

Since this is popular by my standards, please buy my book! It’s only 99p on Kindle in April and contains lashings of skulduggery.
