No question it's a mistake, certainly, but it's impressive. (As a comms prof, I've seen some things, but this stands out!)

This ... ok, what's the source? Is it FB this year?
Notice: If you are an environmentalist or environmental organization using AI to generate a "Happy Earth Day" graphics, I will be billing you for injuries I receive as a result of how hard I am side-eyeing you.

Deeply disappointed not to have been on this list.
This is the thing, if "academia" wanted to stop this, we could easily tomorrow. Over 3 incorrect references? Rejected and forbidden to submit next year.
The purpose of a system is what it does!
Willing suspension of disbelief: impossible now, with destructive consequences even if for completely different reasons.
This is horrific. I feel physically ill.

This Day in History, 1986:
Olaf Solheim's tragic death after being evicted for Expo 86 tourists
The retired logger had lived at the Patricia Hotel in the Downtown Eastside for six decades before he was evicted.
Then the 2010 Olympics evictions, now FIFA..

This still makes me so furious. Facing climate catastrophe and we are doubling down on the worst, most backwards industries.
And the whole ROOM full of tiny toys, like from Happy Meals and whatnot
I went to that very same exhibit with my brother-in-law!
My impressions come largely from the broad inability I'm seeing in student users to explain their work (or assess others'), when GenAI is involved.
Ted, Mark et al. are domain experts, able to assess the outputs meaningfully. If we're not producing domain expertise, what are we doing here?
remember when celebrities seemingly randomly started coming out talking about how much they loved NFTs and thought it was super valuable and the future?
Every time they say something like this, the Chinese EV quota should go up.

Naming your biology LLM after Rosalind Franklin is… hell is not hot enough

This is what the Bluesky homepage looked like when I first logged in today 😅
Very curious about the power it must hold, this novel that was blurbed by a Nobel winner!
You cannot stop this with guardrails, it just has to be shut down. Anything else is lying.
I had to click through, to see why your post was hidden from me due to being "adult content." Glad you're enjoying it so far!
Those shoes look suspiciously similar to a 1970 Fluevog design, the Pilgrim: nothing goofy about those! (Different fastener on the buckle, though, so it must've just been in the air.) new.fluevog.com/our-story/ab...
When pursuing a reference today on the @bloomsburybooksuk.bsky.social site, I stumbled across one of the great book titles, and you all need to know about it! #inclusion www.bloomsbury.com/ca/designing...
More higher ed discourse like this please
A screenshot of my own Bluesky menu, on logging in today, showing more than 30 notifications. I never get that many notifications.
Oh no, what did I do to get that many notifications... #resistAI
Almost deleted that, because it feels so NotAllMen etc, but it's good to know that resistance is coming from almost everywhere
Great thread, but as a man over 50, I'd be remiss not to point out that lots of us in this demographic are ALSO among LLMs' resisters, critics, opponents, and antagonists.
Mark Carney’s newly won Liberal majority government secures his mandate to transfer public money from the public sector to oil and gas, AI, and the military. The NDP have to do a much better job of letting people know what that means for the disadvantaged, the environment and our collective future.
Striking that the Liberals and Conservatives offer the same response to pain at the pump: siphon money out of the public purse instead of Big Oil’s profits.
I've only ever used the plain Douglas-fir tips: great in a mayo and good ground into cookies, but I screwed up the vodka by managing to turn it into mucus. (Now I know why, maybe I'll try that again.)
