#Cyprus #hatespeech

Good speech by Calif. governor
"Given this history tracing back to the1970s, it is puzzling why people continue to believe that the Republicans are trying to reform the universities to address antisemitism. It should be clear that their actions are instead part of a decades-long effort to humble universities for political reasons"

"Στην Κύπρο τον τελευταίο καιρό έχουμε εγκλωβιστεί σε εύκολα συνθήματα και αφηγήματα. Ο πραγματικός ηττημένος από την καταφυγή στην ευκολία αυτή είναι η πολιτική και ο πολιτισμός. "
Seen on a building in the Mission, San Francisco. #Resistance
To think that they desever it, to think that anyone deserves this under any circumstances, means that they see them as lesser humans. I don't know that you can break through that...
Enjoyed listening to former Abmassador to Cyprus John Koenig, in this episode of Legal Matters by @chrischristophi.bsky.social
My fave: "Completely invented a non-existent $50 million program to supply condoms to Gaza."
"...in all but name — and before being officially asked to do so — University President Alan M. Garber ’76 has already actualized many of the Trump administration’s wishes for the University."
"Columbia once in its history expelled a student for non-violent protest: in 1936 for protesting against offering a platform to Nazis. In 1953 its president signed a letter pronouncing communists unfit to teach. ... Vichy on the Hudson."
Kudos to Georgetown. Columbia, take note:
"Our University must foster and nurture a variety of viewpoints on every issue, in classes, in campus discussions. .... We must in turn build an environment where all members of our community are free to express their thoughts."

Superb piece of writing! A heart-rending story that encapsulates so much of the Palestinian reality in Jerusalem, its environs, and beyond, with all its complexity.
As the world gets uglier by the day, there are glimmers of hope when people come together to reject division and "othering". #Cyprus

By August 2024, 40,000 self-proclaimed vigilante vote-fraud hunters had already challenged the rights of 852,381 voters — with a target of 2 million before the election. Did the voters decide the 2024 election, or voter suppression? Watch our movie and decide for yourself. youtu.be/P_XdtAQXnGE
"... this bloody struggle of domination and resistance that we were born into has damaged the ability of all of us--Palestinians and Jews, in Israel and abroad--to empathize, feel compassion, and identify with one another, hindering our capacity to see allies for what they are."
Two good friends of mine in conversation - Smadar Ben Natan and cousin Magda Zenon @magda-zed1.bsky.social
Take care of yourself and don't rush your recovery. The madness isn't going away any time soon!
Hats off!
After the raid on Jerusalem's Educational Bookshop--and detention of two of its owners, Mahmoud and Ahmed Muna have had to hire lawyers. They also need to pay for security, since right-wing protesters have begun showing up. Please consider helping them.
Images of what Jerusalem outside the walls looked like in my my great-great-grandfather's time. He arrived in Palestine in the mid-1860s and died there in 1909.
