Yesterday, the kids downstairs came and invited me to play in the courtyard while it rained. I jumped in a lot of puddles and it was grand. 10/10 would do again.

Our lobby has a sign that says do not leave packages (it's open bc the intercom is in there) & if the resident doesn't answer, buzz the manager, who will let you in. FedEx never abides & leaves stuff. They also ignored my delivery instructions today to buzz me bc I need to sign. I was home!

Why is FedEx so terrible?

She opposes the very necessary rebuild of NYCHA public housing that is in disrepair bc people have to be relocated. Except NYCHA has to relocate them to a comparable unit/same cost & pay for moving expenses. If they can't pack due to disability, NYCHA will pay for that, too. They just have to ask.

So at the risk of maybe overreading this and making an educated guess, I think I can guess what specifically Wyden is talking about.

I think it's about use of AI (LLMs) by FBI to surveil American communications without a warrant

Not knowing how you feel is totally a valid feeling. Go with that.

Honoring Lee Porter this Fair Housing Month 💙

The “Mother of Fair Housing,” she turned personal discrimination into a lifelong fight for justice—helping expand access to safe, affordable housing for thousands.

🏠 Housing is a right, not a privilege.

Trying to explain St Augustine to the pope, the former head of the Augustinian order, who wrote his doctoral thesis on Augustine, on his way back from celebrating mass at the Basilica of St Augustine in Annaba, Algeria, overlooking the site where Augustine lived is peak Adult Catholic Convert.

I saw a lime green car yesterday with the license plate ECTOPSM and it made me simultaneously happy and sad. Happy for the reference, sad only 7 letters are allowed.

Pasta is life. The naysayers should go back to their sad pastaless existences.

Does anyone else experience the whole body cringe whenever someone says "Cali"? I just have such a visceral reaction to this nickname for my home state. I can't explain it.

I've never understood this. Second homes? If you can afford to buy a second home and pay a mortgage on it, then you don't need the tax break.

fees

to do in the next few years (we were built in 1975) and need to have enough cash in the reserves to leverage for a loan to cover people who can't pay a lump sum & don't have the equity for the loan bc prices are down (this was an issue for the $30k). I hate this, but I can't afford a SFH in CA. 3/3

raise fees. The history shows a series of special assessments every few years since 2000. Look up SB 326 - the balcony law - all of us who bought in the last 5 years got fucked. I paid a $30k emergency assessment. We took control of the board & raised the fees bc we have a lot of work 2/3

It's bad. It wasn't until ~1990 that CA required HOAs to have a reserve, but there's no rule about how much they must save. Like most buildings pre-1990 (which are the most affordable!), the owners in my HOA just aged in place & threw fits ("I'm on a fixed income") whenever the board wanted to 1/3

Mine are about $700, started at ~$550 four years ago. Definitely cost of labor, insurance, water, common area electric. The bigger issue is deferred maintenance (at least in CA) bc of the idiot owners before me who didn't want to raise monthlies to ensure projects were done before they became $$$$$

...which is why we see so many people being priced out of LIHTC units.

“Oh but Republicans would…”

Lemme stop you right there. I know that Republicans are okay voting for men accused of sexual assault. Republicans are also okay with voting for racists, child rapists, genocidal maniacs, and whatever the fuck pathology is a “Ted Cruz.”

So miss me with that argument.

Nah, no Steyer. It didn't work well for the GOP at a national level, and it is not going to work well for the Dems on the state level. Now I have to go back to my research and figure out who I'm voting for now. Ugh.

No, look at what I was responding too. Context matters. I was explaining why his supporters are fleeing his campaign - we don’t have time for this shit, so we are moving our support elsewhere.

I do not ever want to hear from one more Brit about how fucked up the US is. A greater % of the population voted for Brexit vs Americans did for Trump.

We both need to be brought behind the woodshed.
