Fun fact! If altos rehearse a line where they sing the same note 16 times in a row, the musical director *must* say “that was a very alto line.” If not, the muses curse them to seven years of having one singer come in prematurely at every performance.

Achievement unlocked: spend so much time at the library that the cafe gives me a staff discount
I must be really persistent and consistent to get in my own way repeatedly

I *was* going have my sapphic main character just reference the existence of a femme ex, but I could always just name her…
Listened to “The Long Day Closes” on repeat all day while I try to catch up on my choir’s repertoire. Only occurred to me much later that 8-hours straight listening to a song about death might be a little morbid…
Like HOW did you get everyone to suddenly be happy with talking animals in their midst? What about the witch-hunting mob? Could we not have a montage hinting that social change required work? Collaboration? It took more than one GOOD person in power to fix the problem of those two WICKED people?
Ok with that off my chest maybe I can go write.
At least the end of part one only messed up Defying Gravity (it’s a ballad, it must build to its crescendo, not be constantly interrupted by exposition)
We have a cult of personality around Glinda. Instead of locking up animals, we’re locking up Madame Morrible. Nothing changes
The musical, which ends when Elpheba cannot carry on the fight any further, taking a shred of happiness for herself, and handing the fight to someone else leaving Oz’a fate uncertain. The movie dispels the uncertainty. Instead of cult of personality around the wizard, 4/?
3) while the character beats were spot on and made me cry at all the appropriate points, they done fucked up the political themes. Like the musical, there’s a big focus on propaganda, cults of personality and weaponising hate against minorities (i.e. fascism) 3/?
2) like part 1, this move succeeded in making Fiyero a viable love interest with depth. In the musical he comes across as an intermediary for Elphie and Glinda to project their very gay feelings onto for the sake of making the mostly straight audience comfortable. 2/?
Ok, my not particularly deep or original Wicked: For Good thoughts for as long as my social media app limits allow me to rant. Spoilers ahead if you care about those things. 1) Elphie and Glinda’s final scene was perfect. Getting to say “I love you”, Glinda’s reaction to it all, no notes. 1/?
If you see this I IMPLORE you to post a picture from whatever device you’re using without explanation
Thank you for the reminder that part 2 is still on my laptop and not our hosting service…I mean part 2 coming soon! 😂
Upside of an all day choir rehearsal: a day of singing!
Downside: those four bars still stuck in your head five hours later
Me, a writer: She can’t get a non-magical bank account because she’s a non-citizen as far as the non-magical world is concerned
Me, an economist: *gives up*
Me, a writer: There are currency controls to prevent a sudden influx of money into the magical economy from clairvoyants playing the stock market
Me, an economist: So why doesn’t she just spend her money in the non-magical economy
Me, a writer: The MC is going to have a job as a corporate clairvoyant
Me, an economist: Why does she need a job if she can predict what the stock market will do…
So excited to have @redscribe.bsky.social read Maintenance Phase for PodCastle. I literally cried. podcastle.org/2025/09/02/1...
