That’s because the Finder comment is saved in an external, invisible .DS_store file. It quickly becomes out of sync especially with cloud storages and/or moving files.
So yeah, that’s why xattr was my preferred choice.

Oh, I didn’t notice that to be honest 😅
What exactly are they pushing?
And yes, each comment will be saved as an extended attribute. So it should work just fine.
However, one thing I noticed is that Finder won’t always show the comment it you hit ⌘+I. The comment exists though.

It should work just fine since it’ll attached to the file itself. The comment will be saved as a xattr “comment” to the file.

Docomments – Comment & Annotate Your Documents Add comments and annotations to your documents with Docomments for Mac. Simple, intuitive, and powerful.

Introducing my first macOS app: Docomments—A delightful way to add notes to your files 📝

Recently, I’ve felt the need to add short comments to files as a kind of change log. So I built my own app! If it fits your workflow, why not give it a try?👇

Velorino‑App – App Store Lade „Velorino“ von Philipp Temmel im App Store herunter. Sieh dir Bildschirmfotos, Bewertungen und Rezensionen, Benutzertipps und weitere Apps wie „Velorino“…

I am super excited to share that my very first iOS app, Velorino, is now live in the App Store ✨

Velorino is your cycling companion, showing you POIs like public water dispenser to fill up your bottles, snack stations to grab a snack, or self-service bike stations.

“The size of the watchOS variant is 76MB, which exceeds the maximum allowable size of 75MB after app thinning.”

So that’s why it’s called Split View.

What a crazy week. In addition to new updates for my license plate app, I built three new Mac apps. Each of them serves a different purpose and was created to simplify my workflow.
I am most proud of a (not-so-small) GeoJSON viewer app.

Oh my! My app has quietly surpassed 500 ratings globally, and it's still rocking at 4.9! 🤩🥳
I couldn't be happier!

It seems that asset catalogs still generate rasterized versions even if your chose “Preserve vector data”.
One last step was to heavily compress all PDF files.
That’s how I went from 300 MB to 80 MB.

I started by using SVGs instead of PDFs for all vector graphics. However this would cause huge performance issues.
So I switched back to PDFs but instead of placing them in an asset catalog, I now have my own package which contains all PDFs. I also switched all PNG formats to HEIC.

I'm working on the next version of my app and finally decided to reduce its size (was 300 MB).
After days and nights of compressing and optimising images, plus a small breakdown yesterday when it reached 1 GB 🫠, I'm happy with the result: only 80 MB! 🥳🥳🥳

Friendly reminder to export your app assets as HEIC instead of PNGs!

For Art of Flora, this lead to an almost a 85% reduction of size 😱

Honestly, the app is free and covers a very niche area. For the iOS counterpart word of mouth worked best so I think it’ll be the same for Android.

There's reason to celebrate! One year ago today, Kennzeichen Wiki was released in the App Store! 🎈🎂
A lot has happened in the meantime, and even an Android app is in the starting blocks 😎
At this point, I'd just like to say a big thank you to all of you! Here's to many more years! 🫶

Introducing ShareBridgely – my first, and super niche macOS app · Philipp Temmel I wanted an easier and quicker access to the macOS share sheet from Vivaldi, so I built an app for it.

I'm not sure if a macOS app can be more niche than this: I wanted to access the macOS share sheet in @vivaldi.com faster, or by clicking on a button, rather than using File > Share. So, I built an app for it. You can join the TestFlight, if that is your thing.

Depressing indeed… luckily the developer apologized and will change the icon with the next update.

Thank you for saying this. The compromise is definitely the solution I was hoping for.

Thanks! I‘m also pleased with the way this matter has turned out.
The screenshots don’t bother me too much but the icon definitely triggered something (probably due to my very strong bond to app icons)…

Update on this: I had a call with the developer and he apologized and will change the icon with the next update.

Wow, that’s next-level audacity!
In my case I just had a call with the developer and he will change the icon with the next update.

Thanks for the suggestion! I just had a call with Kai and he will change the icon with the next update.

I have no clue tbh. My app doesn’t generate any revenues at all so this can’t be it. The only thing I can think of is to jump on the train in order to misguide users. It also uses the exact name of another competitor app…
