I worked for 20 years for a corporation that brought in a nurse every autumn to give employees flu shots. You had to have a doctor's excuse in writing to opt out. When I left that company, I didn't get a flu shot that year I got the flu by the end of Dec. Spent NYE in bed sick as I'd ever been.

My grandmother's first husband & a daughter died in the 1918 flu epidemic. She remarried a soldier who had returned safely from the war. But it turns out, he had PTSD. He kicked her 2 teenaged sons by husband #1 out of the house & later was abusive to the children he fathered w/ her. Some life, huh?

I had an uncle who joined the Army on graduating high school in the early 1950s. He wasn't there for 2 yrs when he was diagnosed w/ schizophrenia. He was discharged but VA got him on SS disability. He never held another normal job & was treated at the VA in Pittsburgh to his death 50+ yrs. later.
