URBANIST: [taking a selfie video] Hey folks! I'm here at the now-CAR FREE Pike Place Market
-I'm walking around this iconic local spot without having to worry about BEING MURDERED BY A CAR
-Notice how peaceful and calm everyth--ope! [they bump into another person taking a selfie video)
URBANIST 2: Sorry! I'm just documenting how nice it is here without cars, for my urbanism blog!
URBANIST 1: So am I!
URBANIST 1: I have 2 words for you: retractable bollards
URBANIST 2: Oh god yes
[They make out in the middle of the road as people continue to walk by]

This is an extremely obvious and banal point that I have been surprised to find is hard to land with people both-sidesing the AI debate. The highest VC funded companies in tech saying “we want to ruin your lives” as marketing copy > any flavor of online poster anti-Ai hyperbole you can find.

007 First Light - Title Sequence: Lana Del Rey | PS5 Games
YouTube video by PlayStation
I cannot believe Lana Del Rey didn't get one of these title sequences before this video game.
I sat through the title sequences for five successive James Bond movies, in theaters, thinking, "Lana, honey..."
She deserves more respect but she should wear this with pride.

I can't quite imagine what an absolute Hell it would be to be knowingly this far out of your depth and fundamentally unwilling to admit it.

How many police officers are there who work in your city but don't live there? How can you trust law enforcement to promote the interests of a community when it sweeps in from the suburbs every morning to exert authority from the outside?

Wow, thanks so much for the additional shout out. It means a great deal. Seeing people say things like "this line resonated with me" has helped me to remember my love for writing after years of professional detachment and fading passion.

Yes, it's dystopian, but for me, it still ranks behind the commercials I see advertising a service that dispenses COUPONS for MEDICINE.

I wish more people had watched the show Berlin Station, because the whole thing was like that. I was watching a pre-filmed story about democratic backsliding in light of foreign manipulation of the internet and thinking, "Wait a minute, this is all happening *right now*."

it is not inevitable or even likely that social media, as we know it, will exist for the rest of our lives. future generations will look much more harshly on this stuff than we do smoking.

It seems bad that infra-left conflict weighs the merits of voting vs firebombing a Walmart until one day you learn intra-right conflict asks whether the president is God or Satan.

Okay, I'll say it: I want everyone (who can) to bike.
Not everywhere, not all the time. But I want everyone to have the experiencing of biking, because I think it will make them happier, healthier, more empathetic and socially-engaged people.
I believe bicycles serve and cars harm the common good.

So, hypothetically, society could be crumbling around our ears and people would still be able to point and say, "Line go up" and insist that everything is hunky dory. There's no chance that could bite us in the collective ass over the long run, is there?
