Wasn't much debate about No. 1. Philadelphia deserved it. Though, the Eagles didn't have the best record last season, weren't No. 1 in most metrics and weren't favored (or picked to win) Super Bowl LIX when it kicked off. But the champs are loaded, again. sports.yahoo.com/nfl/article/...
I can't imagine anyone rooting against the Lions. What a story it would be.
Lamar Jackson had one of the greatest seasons a QB has ever had last season. And, of course, the Ravens fell short in the playoffs again. There's only one way to change the narrative of this Ravens era, and that's to finally win a Super Bowl. sports.yahoo.com/nfl/article/...
Yeah, we shall see.
The Lions were really good last season. And that won't be what people remember about them. Detroit's rise in the NFL has been a fantastic story. But it's fair to wonder and worry if their best Super Bowl chance has already passed. sports.yahoo.com/nfl/article/...
I still don't know where to rank the Chiefs. They're still in the the middle of a dynasty, and went 17-2 in games in which they tried last season. But we all remember last season, and that ridiculous heater in close games can't repeat. Can it? sports.yahoo.com/nfl/article/...
Could very well be.
It's funny that the same people who are downgrading the Vikings also think Sam Darnold isn't very good. I don't get how those things coexist.
The Bills have had playoff disappointments, mostly against the Chiefs, but they've been smart to not make any drastic changes. This group is good enough to win the Super Bowl. It just hasn't happened yet. Yet maybe it never will during this Chiefs dynasty. sports.yahoo.com/nfl/article/...
The Vikings went 14-3. You wouldn't know it from how they're being talked about this offseason. The disrespect has been real. I'll trust a great coaching staff, a strong offseason and yes, J.J. McCarthy too. sports.yahoo.com/nfl/article/...
The Packers are in an odd place. They have many good players and no real weakness. They also have very few true blue-chip elite players. That's how you become an 11-win team that doesn't look like a Super Bowl contender. How can that change? sports.yahoo.com/nfl/article/...
I'm high on the Buccaneers this season. The offense is absolutely loaded. The defense wasn't bad and made big strides late in the season. The division might still be very weak. This will be a level up season for Tampa Bay. sports.yahoo.com/nfl/article/...
Listen @yahooschwab.bsky.social's NFL previews are all bangers but the Commanders might be his bangerest yet
It's a fascinating team that arrived way earlier than expected, and this season will be compelling — even if the next step isn't forward, in some respects
Before last Chargers season, Jim Harbaugh had been away from the NFL for nine years. He couldn't shape the roster as he hoped, due to LA cleaning up it salary cap. The Chargers won 11 games anyway. The Harbaugh Era might be a special one for LA. sports.yahoo.com/nfl/article/...
I was high on the Commanders before last season. That was a fun ride. So it pains me a bit to say: Regression might be coming pretty hard in Washington this season. sports.yahoo.com/nfl/article/...
They were the hardest team for me to rank this season.
The Broncos were a prime example of how life in the NFL can be a slog when you don't have a quarterback. Then Sean Payton found Bo Nix, and the Broncos showed how quickly everything changes when you do have that QB. sports.yahoo.com/nfl/article/...
The Rams were a mess early last season. Then over the final few months, the offense got healthier, a young defense got much better and LA put itself in a position to almost knock off the Eagles in Philly. And now 2025 brings some renewed hope. sports.yahoo.com/nfl/article/...
Finally: @yahooschwab.bsky.social wraps up the NFL Quarter Century series today with 25 moments that changed the league, and if there's one time capsule of the NFL on a broad scale this century, it's here 👇
All this week we've been running NFL Quarter Century, a terrific look back at the past 25 years by the inimitable @yahooschwab.bsky.social (🧵)
First up: The All-Quarter Century team, with some really, really hard decisions (like WR3!)
The 49ers had everything go wrong last season. Then they had a really bad offseason. But yet, there are good reasons to believe that this is still a Super Bowl contender. sports.yahoo.com/nfl/article/...
By some measures, the 2024 Bengals were historic. Not in a good way. It's practically unprecedented for a team to have a QB play at Joe Burrow's level last season and miss the playoffs. And Cincinnati didn't do a ton to change things this offseason. sports.yahoo.com/nfl/article/...
The Bears had a great offseason. Again. Now it has to result in some wins. Caleb Williams had good moments as a rookie. It's time for him and the team to take the next step, and for Williams to become Chicago's first star QB since ... ever? sports.yahoo.com/nfl/article/...
Yeah, me too, I would be thrilled if it came back as well. Appreciate the kind words.
The Texans are in a weird place. On the whole, last season was fine. Division title, playoff win. But the second half of the regular season was not good. And I'm not sure all of the problems were really fixed. sports.yahoo.com/nfl/article/...
That's my guess as well.
Don't know about the pod, but will be writing them again this season.
