Thie thing is, I don't actually think this is a problem with individual drivers so much as the fact that circa 2020 the police essentially gave up doing traffic enforcement at all. It didn't take drivers long to notice that there were no more rules.

This absolutely does not apply to parents or outdoor athletes. Significant percentage of my travel has been to go skiing or climbing. You need so much gear.

Lab grown meat, realistically. We need to scale it up to the point where its economical enough to supplant cows

‘Simply stop giving millionaires water for literally free’ is one of the most insane sounding but actually serious policy solutions out there

The last time I missed a flight (due to a customs delay in Atlanta) it took like 5 hours to get on another plane because the next 3 flights were all overbooked

Or their occupation of Gaza last time for that matter.

It's extra weird to me because most of these folks were alive for Iraq and Afghanistan, "COIN is hard, and requires a political solution," should be as obvious as "the sky is blue" now. Israel isnt magically exempt from this rule.

“What are they supposed to do, just completely discount the word of the President of the United States like it doesn’t mean anything?”

The residual credibility of the US presidency is awesome in the old sense. 10 years after the point where it was obvious no one should believe a word out of his mouth and people are risking multimillion follar capital assets on it.

With medieval tech that was basically the only way. The real solution of course was "don't hunt boar at all."

Wait, is the dude just leaning out the window with a rifle?

Air combat on a RETVRN arc all the way back to 1915 apparently

If it looks like a kaiju its almost always a snapping turtle. Other turtles mostly look like cool little guys.

As someone who's generally AI accepting (wouldn't call myself pro, but its here and we might as well get used to it) basically the entire PR problem with AI is being created by its boosters.

The electorate is *a* problem, but the embarrassing speed with which the elites embraced fascism this time around means they're firmly at number 2 for me after the billionaires.

This is extra funny coming from me given how resolutely center left and mildly elitist my political history is.

Thats nothing, they might as well come out and say "go vegan"

What was really telling early on was when Biden sent the guy who cleared mostly (name escapes me, sorry) and the idf was like "nah", which was one thing but he then got himself out of there asap because he didn't want to be associated with it at all.

I guess the point im trying to make is that this was not meaningfully different to allied practice in ww2, the only previous conflict where US air power had been deployed before. Quite literally there was no other frame of reference for airpower employment

100' or so, with reasonable accuracy against stationary targets

I think we also often don't consider the collective trauma ww2 really represented. Everyone above the rank of 2Lt had just been part of a war where thousands were dying a day and that was a good day. It's not surprising they were willing to do horrible shit without considering it.

Not to get into the weeds of "did strategic bombing work?" discussion. (I think yes sorta) but in the 1950s there had been exactly one war with a major air component and it was probably inevitable that they'd fight the next one the same way. Leaving later use of airpower aside for now

Platner is the kind of guy who should not be given Power the same way you shouldn't get gremlins wet after midnight.

I honestly don't know if we can put this 100% on MacArthur, the US military was just a few years out of WWII and the entire military strategic culture considered that level of bombing to be normal.

I dont want to excuse "just following orders" as a cop out, but the bar for the military doing a coup should be pretty high. I think its probably better in the long run for the stupid war to go ahead than to normalize a military veto over foreign policy.

People look at 50k and think "it would be impossible to sustain my lifestyle with that," and they're right but they could live in rural Wisconsin just fine with that if you have limited entertainment ambitions
