Mercy killing the enderly and terminally ill is still debated in many Christian circles, but I find them both to be dehumanizing. As someone who values innocent life, I cannot justify it in my mind.
For the unborn and infantile though, most Christian circles agree that it is very wrong.
So, I would argue that mercy killing humans in general is a bad thing, especially infants and fetuses because they aren't able to have a say in whether they live or die.
I don't even support it for the terminally ill and elderly; I think using drugs to get rid of the pain is fine, but not killing.
I will grant it to you that one big problem I have with the pro-life movement is that the same people who support it are the same ones who fight against ANY social welfare programs. There needs to be something better in place for mother's and children of poor circumstances.
I'm very sorry for their losses... It's not their faults that they had miscarriages.
Something absolutely does need to be in place for children under unfortunate circumstances, and it's a crime against humanity we don't have something better than what we have now, but I don't think that justifies murder. Humans aren't animals we can just put down.
Okay, I see what you're talking about now.
So, for the church, it was banned regardless, though it was less serious before quickening because they believed it wasn't "ensoled" yet. It was never condoned though.
However, the church father Tortullian saw no difference between abortion and homicide.
The church has existed way before the New Land was discovered. The early church also opposed abortion.
As for sex shaming, Christians typically give equal treatment, as sleeping around in general can lead to church discipline and if unrepentant of, even excommunication. Only exceptions I know of are Anabaptist sects like the Amish, or blatantly heretical sects like JW's or LDS.
So for abortion, the reason why we believe it is wrong is because we see the fetus as a life, and therefore the termination of it would be murder. It has nothing to do with hating women. Hell, Christians shun men who pressure their lovers into abortions. If the baby grew in a man, same story.
Not if reality was void of evil at one point. Evil makes things worse, objectively, and so progress into evil creates regression in all that is good, just, peaceful, and true.
We don't get a fuller picture of reality by corrupting it. All that does is make our reality worse.
I guess I need some elaboration and examples; I'm not sure what you mean by "blamed and held accountable forever," nor do I know of Christian sects that grant harsher punishments towards women than men for the same sins (unless they're like a weird Anabaptist sect, but most Christians find them off)
Are we still talking about the Fall of Adam and Eve, or is this a tangent?
It grew a new realm of sorts, that's for sure. I wouldn't call it development though, as that term insinuates progress in the right direction.
Progress isn't always a good thing. Things can progress from good to bad, and bad to worse (which is exactly what happened after the Fall).
I would point you to my initial comment; Adam had the greater sin by not standing up to the serpent as his wife was being tempted right in front of him.
Knowledge doesn't always lead to growth. The Fall is a clear example of that. If anything, it lead to regression.
Why do you value enlightenment over your own good?
2. Adam and Eve didn't live in a lazy bliss; they still worked and tended to the garden and animals that abided there.
All the Fall brought about in regards to our toil was the vainness and pain that comes with it now. For the Adam and Eve, it was always fruitful.
So a couple things to address here:
1. Should a 7 year old be taken to see Terrifier 3? I would say no.
In the same sense, there are things that we are not meant to know, either for our own good or because we cannot comprehend them. Figuring out what was in Pandora's box didn't justify opening it.
No? I am saying the world they lived in lacked any evil, and it was only when they disobeyed God's one single command that they destroyed that paradise and introduced evil into it.
They didn't leave "indolent pleasures." By eating the forbidden fruit, they rebelled against God's Goodness so they could know Evil in a world without Evil. What they left was their innocence and essentially opened Pandora's box. The gnosis they sought not only revealed evil, but unleashed it.
