(Poem) A WHOLE CIVILIZATION WILL DIE TONIGHT My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I’m wondering if they’ve closed their schools. Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it’s “keep your children home so if you die, you die together” — Instead of “we’ll open back up once the plows have cleared” it’s “we don’t know if we’ll be here tomorrow, so hold your babies tight.” It’s just “talk,” I’m told, which I’ve been told before. “It’s how the president makes his deals.” But I’ve never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I’m not certain I can look my son in the eyes If we all agree to stomach it one more time. A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: If this Is what we call leadership then I’m not entirely sure ours isn’t already dead. Michael F. DuBois
Someone should read this into the congressional record.
A WHOLE CIVILIZATION WILL DIE TONIGHT My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools. Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's "keep your children home so if you die, you die together" — instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's "we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight." It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before. "It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time. A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead. @michaelfdubois Mukad A QuBoy @michacifdubois
Brutal.
A few have suggested that some aspects of this mission--joy, international teamwork, diversity--are being played up to stick it to the hateful attitude of the administration. But I don't think it's that. I think it's just that those things are essential to and inseparable from a mission like this.
If there are any US constitution experts who'd like to volunteer to analyse the actions on the TrumpActionTracker from a constitutional perspective - please get in touch!
It's a big undertaking but I think would provide an important lens.

“Despite the money being available, people inside and outside the government say the State Department is deliberately withholding some of the funds. As a result, key HIV efforts — that even the Trump administration deemed "lifesaving" — are on the brink of shutting down.”

BREAKING: In response to huge cuts in Trump's budget request, NSF is shuttering its SBE directorate. Staff will be transferred to other parts of the agency and "grants that align with Administration priorities" will be maintained.

7 years ago, we learned about Bob Mueller’s conclusions. Today, there are a lot of posts on social media claiming it was a farce, or worse, a fraud. But those posts are disinformation. Here is the actual information, with links for those who want to do a deep dive.

Time sensitive: this is the last day to submit comments opposing the Bureau of Land Management's clearcutting of Oregon's ancient forests. This is a tool that educates you on just how diabolical it is, and it helps you submit your comment. morethanjustparks.com/oregon-old-g...
