Quite chilly in Fairbanks-land through Wednesday but then something close to normal starting Thursday, which will be a big change. Bad news for those hoping for endless winter. #akwx #weather @climatologist49.bsky.social

Line graph time series of 2026's daily Arctic sea ice extent compared to decadal averages from the 1980s to the 2010s. The decadal averages are shown with different colored lines with purple for the 1980s, blue for the 1990s, green for the 2000s, and white for the 2010s. Thin white lines are also shown for each year from 2000 to 2025. 2026 is shown with a thick gold line. There is a long-term decreasing trend in ice extent for every day of the year shown on this graph between March and May by looking at the decadal average line positions.

A vivid rainbow arcs from the upper left of the frame down to the tundra surface of the Donnelly Flats in interior Alaska, just north of the Alaska Range. A small dark lake reflects the sky in the middle foreground, surrounded by boreal spruce forest and green tundra vegetation. The tundra beyond the lake is lit in warm yellow-green light where the sun breaks through the overcast sky. The silhouette of the Alaska Range is faintly visible along the horizon.

Sea ice extent in the Bering Sea is typical for mid-April in NSIDC data. There is more shorefast ice on the Alaska coast from Yukon River delta northward than in most recent years, while ice extent on the Russian side of the Being Sea is very low. #akwx #Arctic #SeaIce
