Not by coincidence, "white supremacists are the Republicans Party's constituents and they don't want it pointed out" is the real reason why those of us who study and teach it are losing our jobs.

"Your Account is Suspended" Message on X
The CEO of Palantir posted a fascist manifesto on X.
I pointed out that it was fascist—which resulted in a permanent suspension from X (my second time!).
So, when you hear the tweeters complaining that BlueSky is intolerant, remember why many of us came here in the first place.
The easiest way to rid our society of drug-addled billionaires is to rid our society of billionaires.

Also, as Eric Rauchway has argued, those numbers even misstate the situation in 1938, as the anti-New Deal economists who came up
with them refused to count people on federal work-relief among the employed.

This skeet showed up in my feed and my first thought was "must be a thread about Amity Shlaes." Turns out, I was right!
And once they achieve "institutional neutrality" and "intellectual diversity," the next step is not political peace and public trust, as these administrators dream, but rather Gleichschaltung or Vernichtung.
Universities administrations committed to"intellectual diversity" and "institutional neutrality" are administrations that have given up entirely on fighting to defend the core scholarly and educational mission of the university.
"Institutional neutrality" makes it impossible for university leadership to advocate for the concrete, political interests of the university. Indeed, that is what the idea is designed to make happen.
Universities have concrete institutional interests...and these interests are political. If the pursuit of truth is made impossible because certain ideas are outlawed or funding for some kinds of scientific research disappears due to political pressures, universities cannot function as universities.
But the agenda of the far-right is not a university in which fascism, too, has a place in the curriculum. The agenda is fascist universities, full stop. This is what Victor Orban achieved in Hungary. And this is what is already being forged in public institutions in some red states like TX and FL.
Along with the related nonsensical idea of "institutional neutrality" (which went from invention to nearly universal adoption overnight), "intellectual diversity" is seen by the administrative class as a way of easing the threat from far-right donors and state and federal governments.
Rather, the idea that all ideas should be a part of the curriculum is designed to appeal to an administrative class in higher ed that sees accusations of "liberal bias" as a PR problem, an issue for some wealthy donors, and, under fascism, a huge threat to federal funds.
Crucially, the people who created this new principle absolutely do not believe in it (as events in Texas illustrate).
So the way to get educational institutions to teach these falsehoods is bad faith claims of "intellectual diversity," which shift the open-endedness of the scholarly pursuit of truth to a newly invented principle that, if anyone believes something, it should have a place in the university.
The far right believes that they know the entirety of the truth...or at least what they think the hoi polloi should be taught as the truth. Unfortunately, a lot of this "truth" is (pretty trivially) false.
Academics tend to believe that the search for truth is a process, and that that search is an open-ended process. But some things have been proven false. The Earth is not 6,000 years old. Nor is it flat.
Nobody actually believes that _all_ ideas should have an equal place in universities. At some level, everyone understands that some ideas are false and some of these false ideas are deeply dangerous.
The stuff like this going on in Texas (and more quietly in universities around the country) reveals that the "intellectual diversity" demands from these same folks are a total grift. They have no interest in intellectual diversity.
This is a boringly accurate, purely factual description of events.
And again, this is simply not receiving the same breathless BIDEN FAILED IN AFGHANISTAN type of coverage, even though this is orders of magnitude worse on every dimension. The two parties simply are not held to the same standards.
And this is exactly what was happening in the early 2000s with Intelligent Design.
It never really changes.

i think folks might be unfamiliar with "the pharisees", so let's make it clear: he's saying the jews run the press, and that they are conspiring to undermine the military. it's not just antisemitism, it's indistinguishable from nazism.
Here's a fun thread
Good column from @billscher.bsky.social that highlights how Platner's team seems to try and ignore media requests, including mentions how they didn't respond to my request for comment about his use of the r-word. washingtonmonthly.com/2026/04/17/w...
Flock cameras have useful, modular electronic components in them, including:

Plus various other components with precious metals that can be harvested for scrap.
Of course, Pope Leo could change this rule, but doing so in order to run himself might be a bad look.
In 1980, Pope John Paul II banned Catholic priests from serving in Congress (and, presumably in other offices), leading then Democratic Congressman (and Jesuit priest) Robert Drinan to not seek reelection that year.
Surprisingly little was made of this distinction in 2024 by the "they didn't earn my vote" segment of the left, perhaps because they also objected to the candidate primary voters had chosen, Joe Biden.
