Phenomenal evening of bowling. Jack taken into the gutter on two occasions making for an intriguing battle of wits. The newly cut green offering up peculiar behaviour. And the usually steady bowling from the Lancashire contingent suddenly awry owing to an apparently unwanted cider. Well bowled 🙏

A rare foursome. A number of external matters seemed to have an influence on individual performances, not least the sweltering nature of the day.

And though the green could do with a trim, focus was on playing over maintenance, for a change.

We will now run from 2pm at the Blue Pig, Midgehole, Hebden Bridge (to 7pm latest).

Still cash only, but dry and with a wonderful sound system.

In between downpours there will be boules on the riverside car park.

Since the bowling looks to be constrained, we’ll be scaling back the gathering to suit the conditions.

Under the wildlife canopy of soaring buzzards and a(nother) mayfly hatch, a certain northerner channeled the heady spirits of a non-league Wembley visit to the hallowed turf of Hebden Bridge bowling club. A gripping and enjoyable game.
