If you live in Seattle and don’t know Ada’s technical books and coffee on 15th in capital hill, you need to go now—if only to know what you will be missing when they close in June.

I literally came back on to repost this quote and found you did it first
It implies: 1) scientists are doing fine, and are being wined and dined by Europe
and 2) that science and health benefits will not be affected.
If we stay on the current trajectory, new cures for cancer won’t just come from Europe—they just won’t come at all.
Why do journalists keep repeating this line that scientists are all going to leave? They mention 95,000 science jobs lost in federal science alone, and then talk about countries hiring 10-12 people total! Why is this fake exodus a repeat headline and scientists loosing their careers en masse not?
That is odd. Good luck!
Best of luck. Once packages hit the FedEx Memphis vortex no one you can reach seems to know anything about where they are and what is happening to them. At one point I called 3-5 times and assumed that if I heard the same answer twice it might be right.

🚨 STARFISH EMERGENCY 🚨
Is there anyone out here who has a boat & access to San Juan Islands of Washington??!!
And is available this week.
My friend who fights sea star wasting disease (SSWD), his project site has become ineligible and needs help finding another.
DM me ASAP if can help!
If my grad student pulled this shit with me, they'd be out of the lab. Lies like that about methods to paper over your mistake are simply unacceptable.
It did crap like this over and over.
Don't forget to register for this amazing webinar series!
Awesome! Thanks for that! Pop sci articles that I had read seized on the “mix-up” story when there was no mix-up at all, and it really should have been a teachable moment of the step-wise way we learn about the world (complete with egos getting in the way of progress).
I get that Pluto is just a change in terms, but I had thought that brontosaurus was a mix up of a head of one dinosaur on the body of another. How did renaming bring that back? No amount of lumping or splitting will get me a pterodactaraptor.
Tell me what you think LLMs do well and I’ll tell you what you do not value.
Cool paper, turning evolutionary theory on its head - gene conversion overcomes the cost of asexual reproduction…

Notably, I too have been known to do this.
With @saramitri.bsky.social, @sonjalehtinen.bsky.social and L. Lehmann we’ve launched the UNIL Center for Theory in Ecology and Evolution @unil.bsky.social🇨🇭
To kick things off, we’re offering short visiting fellowships for theorists in ecology & evolution. Apply & pls RP 😀

What if cancer, already one of the deadliest diseases known to the animal kingdom, suddenly became contagious?
Among certain species it has. Now, it’s happening in the Salish Sea.

Researchers in the US might be having feelings about writing grants atm-I know I am!
We still need to write them. In this Evolution Exchange, I again chat with Sam Scheiner, who summarizes how to write a competitive proposal.
His advice is gold, and helpful regardless of funder. Pls RT!
Reading through @carlbergstrom.com’s Bullshit Machines. In LLM space, “go to the ED” and “don’t go to the ED” are actually pretty close, and both LOOK LIKE a valid answer. The goal of the bot isn’t to be right, just to convince you that it is. Whether you live or die is irrelevant.

We are pleased to present our last work entitled:
"Concurrent L1 retrotransposition events promote reciprocal translocations in human tumorigenesis"

The impact is already hitting science agencies hard. The NIH—the world's largest public biomedical research funder—has had to rely on leftover stopgap funds.
New grant awards have slowed to a trickle — exacerbating the effects of a record-long shutdown in October.
