Great to see that the "Thrash" climate disaster movie is #1 on @netflix.com worldwide!

Those who have been watching climate impacts the past years saw many homages pass by.

It will get worse before it gets worse 👇

Thank you Adam McKay @ghostpanther.bsky.social & @hyperobjectind.bsky.social!

I don’t think there’s anyone in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, most of LA who agrees with anything in the 🍊🤡 does. Come visit your friends down here. Remind us we’re not alone. Ooh maybe together we can plot an overthrow if you’re not up for liberating us from the tyrant.

We have it backwards. We're trying to design streets around cars - yes, even traffic-calming designs are car centered - when we should be closing streets because cars just don't belong there. Amsterdam started this way. They closed a main thoroughfare, and people adapted. Are we too far gone?

For a long time I’ve thought that severe traffic injuries and deaths should mean that location is closed to cars - ideally permanently. In the case of Pretti & Good, it’s absolutely the right thing to do. Turn that spot into a garden or park instead.

* Vehicle traffic: -11%
* Foot traffic: +3.4%

VMT doesn’t matter if it’s close to eliminating the public health crisis of human driving and the planetary crisis of ICE vehicles.

 Muni bus struck and injured a man who died last month after the ambulance in which he was being treated was reportedly blockaded by autonomous vehicles, officials announced Tuesday.

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency and the San Francisco Fire Department told The Examiner in a joint statement that the Muni bus was stopped in the westbound lanes of Harrison Street near the intersection of Seventh Street just before 11 p.m. on Aug. 14 when a pedestrian crossed the street and "approached the rear of the bus."

The intersection where a 12-year-old boy was struck and killed by a Muni train Tuesday morning was long ago identified as a high-injury corridor, and city officials know it’s among San Francisco’s most dangerous streets.

Andrew Wu, an Aptos Middle School student, was declared dead at the scene in Ingleside. The crash was reported at 8:28 a.m. near the intersection of San Jose and Lakeview avenues.

That intersection, according to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, was earmarked for traffic safety improvements last year as part of the program Walk First, but those improvements are not set for completion until the end of 2016.

 93-year-old man died Monday from injuries suffered when he was struck by a cable car Sunday while walking in a crosswalk on Mason Street in San Francisco, police said.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, was crossing Mason Street in a marked crosswalk when the southbound cable car hit him, knocking him down and causing serious injury, police said.

Around 3 p.m. on Sept. 13, 2021, San Francisco resident Amy Adams, 41, boarded a 10-car BART train bound for the East Bay. Just before the train departed, though, Adams decided to hop off the train. When she exited the car, her dog, leashed to her backpack, stayed on board. The doors closed, and Adams was dragged down the platform until she struck a gate. She died of multiple blunt force traumas.

💯 fewer cars are the answer. Waymo can help with that. And the technology should be put in the buses + trains.

🤖🚗 don’t pull money away from ped/bike/transit. They are 💯 privately funded, and enable people to give up their cars. Car-free people are more likely to walk/bike/take transit. We win.

NSC Estimates Over 44,000 Traffic Deaths in 2024
National trend obscures dramatic regional differences in roadway safety challenges.

March 11, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Preliminary analysis from the National Safety Council shows an estimated 44,680 people died in preventable traffic crashes in the United States during 2024. This represents a slight decrease of less than 1% compared to 2023, with only 82 fewer deaths, indicating the crisis on U.S. roadways continues with little improvement.

Cry me a river over a *nearly* missed flight due to a completely preventable episode. Human driving should be eliminated.

The woman was first hit by a HUMAN DRIVER and then “popcorned” over the Cruise car. No human driver could have avoided hitting her. The dragging is because the AV co’s were told to get out of the way instead of sitting in intersections when something happens. No one could have predicted that scene.

The most absurd thing. There is a “stop” button and he could have called support from the car without a phone at any time. He just wanted his 15 minutes.
