Entangled Narratives: Insights from Social and Computer Sciences on National Artificial Intelligence Infrastructures Abstract. How do countries narrate their values and priorities in artificial intelligence infrastructures in comparative national and global contexts? This

Our answer last March was “Entangled Narratives” published in the ‘International Studies Quarterly’. Our International Affairs article (above) updates our analysis of national strategies with that of international organizations: they are information brokers but not influential. tinyurl.com/5btja2z8

How is AI governed globally? We offer a networks & clusters approach to global governance. Using computational methods, we evidence the pluralism in AI governance in which there are great powers and ‘leaders’ but the non-leaders may not follow or suffer as they must academic.oup.com/ia/article-a...

well informed patients are a good thing. But we need more studies. My main concern with the study above was with its experimental design and the limiting parameters

Erin, I appreciate the carefulness of the researchers and the study -- how participant questions matter, etc.-- but ultimately the story is about prescription. Most of us (yes, include me) use the chatbots for information purposes -- understanding complex medical reports, pathologies etc.

The three-way race for Brazil’s rare earths heats up US, EU and China compete for South American nation’s vast deposits of the critical minerals as trade tensions loom

Good writing is admirable. Here in the middle of a complex trade story, a word that made me smile:

"US financial firepower already appears to have gazumped European officials."

The world is suffering from a shortage of tenors Want to join a choir? Can you sing tenor? Answer the second question first

What are we going to do? Will we start seeing baritones and basses rushing to stage as the soprano dies? Or get past the inherent sexism of many stories? Or, is the tenor voice wrongly cultivated for many like that of the countertenors in another era?

Perfectly inter-personable & affectionate thing to do!

Even if you disliked her recent politics, watch Zarna Garg's "Aunties Without Borders." Sorry for hijacking your Olympics thread.

[I'm newish to BlueSky & didn't realize I can't correct the spelling in Cotillard's name. Profs will be profs.]

Ouch. thapar (slap) > jutti (shoe)

Sounds impossible, but is there an equivalent of the incremental pragmatic federalism Draghi suggests that's relevant to national defense, geopolitics, and economic experimentation? Perhaps, build coalitions revisiting clauses in the European Coal and Steel Community and the Treaty of Rome.

But Edith Piaf left the planet a while back. Marion Cotillord does a fierce impersonation though. [Ok, time for me to duck the desi jutti from you!]

Trump’s Failure of the Will J.P. Singh thinks America’s aspiring dictator is incapable of producing the spectacles that sustain authoritarian rule.

Donald Trump's military parade was an embarrassing flop, and his vision for a new White House ballroom has been widely ridiculed. Incapable of achieving genuine spectacle, he has opted for cheap shock politics instead, notes @jp-singh.bsky.social. bit.ly/4anyXbh

I agree. Knitting across borders is much needed — AOC ought to do the same intranationally with the center and the center-left (or vice versa)

Many writers have called attention to Trump's political spectacles. My op ed today notes that Trump produces political shocks rather than spectacles. Shocks are not good for sustaining authoritarianism.

My op ed based on Trump's speech at Davos where after excoriating the Europeans, he spoke about a shared "special culture...the precious inheritance that America and Europe have in common." He didn't believe a word he said. Here's the history of that culture and all that Trump does to negate it.

With your position as the starting point, that many AI skeptics would view as severe, I can definitely see how even EU regulation is too soft. My position pushes on big tech while appreciating AI innovations in areas such as medicine, agriculture, transportation & public services help humanity.

Balancing Ethics and AI Innovation J.P. Singh criticizes the unbalanced approaches to governing the technology taken by EU and US policymakers.

Effective AI governance will require policymakers to find a balance between innovation and ethics, notes @jp-singh.bsky.social – not to choose one or the other, as the EU and the US have done. bit.ly/47mNYsa

Brilliant analysis from Alan Wm. Wolff on the role middle powers and progressives might play in revitalizing the WTO. The US share of world trade at 13% now is dwindling and China is too self-centered in its policies. Based on extensive interviews in Geneva and recent successes and cautions.

Trump Officials Demand Apology From George Mason President Over Diversity

George Mason is one of the most diverse campuses in the U.S. intellectually and demographically. I'm proud to be on its faculty.

On targeting the university's first black President, the head of the Faculty Senate is quoted below as saying: “It feels extremely personal to me, and about him.”
