So after giving the debut LP and 20th anniversary set of outtakes etc a spin, I thought I might as well follow that up by delving into De Stijl.

Today felt like a White Stripes day, so out came the debut LP and the 20th anniversary set of outtakes as well as some early live performances.
A pair of demos recorded in New York in 1968 by Alexander 'Skip'Spence'. Made to look like an acetate, these show Spence before his psychotic collapse & subsequent lifelong battle with schizophrenia. If you have never heard his one solo album Oar, do yourself a favour & grab a copy now.
With Record Store Day fast approaching, I have once again put together a fantasy release. This one looks at an alternative version of Bob Dylan's album, Blood On The Tracks.

I cannot remember where I first heard Maple Glider, but her first album (which is coloured pearly green) was in the basket of an online retailer for ages before I bought it.
So glad I did and then I bought the second one straight away. Here's hoping a new LP will be released soon.
Great album that
I do like a bit of psych/freakbeat music but there is no way I could afford the prices being charge for the original 7" singles for some of the better known discs, let alone the obscure ones.
Thankfully, in 2018 Universal put out this wonderful box set with seven discs of psych/freakbeat goodness.
Bought it on vinyl and cd single. The best of the reunion singles as far as I am concerned
57 years ago, Genesis released their debut LP. This has been screaming out for a deluxe edition so in the absence of anyone doing one, here is my take on it.

Karen Elson released two LPs on her then husband Jack White's record label.
Supposedly, she would hide her musical ambitions from White by hiding around the house so he wouldn't hear what she was doing.
She has released two further albums, but her last one, Green has yet to see a vinyl edition.
Released as part of the 2015 Record Store Day line-up, this box set collected all the EP’s released for the French market on the Decca label. Beautiful presented with the original artwork and rare mixes. Well worth picking up if you can find one.
I especially love the 'smooth' camera work as it pulls away from Bob Langley near the end.
It’s been a while since I caught some live music but tonight it was lovely to see Amelia Coburn at the Star Inn, Guildford
The latest and the last of the Flying Vinyl Sampler series.

In 2013, Tanya Donelly released a series of online EP's, collaborating with names such a Robyn Hitchcock, John Wesley Harding as well as ex Belly band mates Tom Gorman & Gail Greenwood.
In 2016, 31 tracks were collected on to this wonderful three LP set.
Alan Price released a couple of mellow love songs in the late 1970s', a far cry from his blues roots in The Animals.
Coming on a heart shaped record really hammered home the point of the content contained on the groves.
Before there was The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Queen & pretty much every great UK band/artist of the 1960s, there was Lonnie Donegan.
A couple of legends on the turntable today. Loretta Lynn and Wanda Jackson. Both of these releases came via Third Man Records Vault Series.
What better way to enjoy a relaxing Sunday afternoon by checking out some Modern Art.
The Sonic Dimensions (1982-1985) box set came out in 2013 and collected together previously released recordings as well as publisher demos.
Happy New Year everyone. It is the first of the month so here is the latest in our series of deluxe versions of White Stripes albums.

Hasn't she had had three number 1's singles in the UK?
I would not have had Some Might Say as high as it is in both charts. Not a great song compared to Acquiesce which should have been the A-Side.
What a beautiful way to kick off the new year. Still sounds great after all these years and has been re-released on vinyl. Can't wait for some new music, some gigs in the UK (hopefully) and/or (fingers crossed) some recordings from the archive. @danielmesse.bsky.social
It can be argued that it is a bit of a rip off for fans who have bought the deluxe box sets down the years with only 13 of the 36 track being previously unreleased.
However, when that Apple Records label starts spinning, all is right with the world.
If, like me, you are a bit fed up of the same old Christmas records being played every year, then why not try this set of 'alternative' festive songs.
Happy Christmas everyone

All good things must come to an end & in July of 2021, the last five disc 7" set dropped through the letterbox. There was still enough quality music in those seven months for another double LP Flying Vinyl sampler.

Elephant was the fourth album by The White Stripes and was their most successful LP up to that point. This is what a Deluxe Edition of that LP could have looked like if Jack White was a bit more conventional with his back catalogue.

Police drummer, Stuart Copeland recorded enough songs in the early days of the band for a mini solo album which was released on a green 10” records. Not sure why the photo is slightly out of focus. Maybe there was Kryptonite included in the vinyl.
Another what if to kick of the month. I always felt that the first two solo LPs by Paul McCartney had some great tracks let down by too much filler. Therefore, what if the best bits were kept for one album. This is what I came up with.

So we are coming to the end of yet another month. It must therefore be time to drop another Flying Vinyl sampler.
